If your the Raptors, you rather let Kawhi walk for nothing? Taking back Lavine would be a win for the Raptors.

There are plenty of people on this board who would rather have nothing than Zach Lavine. You yourself suggested as much when you said "We cut bait with Lavine's contract".

I'm just trying to understand why Toronto would feel differently.

They wouldn’t

What's the rationale? If we were sending out Portis on a deal for a 1st or another asset, then this could make sense.

Zipser is gone.
Archie can be cut at camp or pre-season. Holiday will be traded at the deadline.

trade idea: how about Felicio for Thon Maker? Felicio is the better center, better rebounder, with better b-ball instincts. Maker has much more upside, better shooter, and better shot blocker and better on defense

Huh? That makes no sense. Powell is a wing and Portis is a PF.

As for the original trade I'd rather not take on Powell at the moment. Holiday is a solid vet and the Bulls have to see what they have in LaVine.

Wiz fan looking at cost cutting. Our obvious move would be to stretch Mahinmi (2/31M) & Smith (1/5.5M). Trying to gauge other ways to achieve same outcome, namely by trading a good backup (Mahinmi) for trash that's waived.

Obviously, Asik and Felicio are useless and might be perfect stretch candidates. Thoughts on possible match to help both of us?

Mahinmi for Asik seems a little too good for us ($ owed next year outweighs talent difference)

Knicks to use stretch provision on Joakim Noah.

Man, would be nice to have him as our 5 big riding the bench rather than Felicio and Asik. Unfortunately, there's no room for him.

It seems like a dumb move for the Knicks to announce that now. Why not play him a bit to see if he has anything left in the tank? Then re-visit that later on.

Not sure why there's so much negativity about the Knicks stretching Noah.

They're not winning this year, with Porzingis out and they're building young. Noah is not part of their future.

Fiz & the Knicks are doing Noah a favor by waiving him so he can go play for a team that's in win-now mode, which isn't New York.

If we didn't have Lopez, I'd be mildly interested in bringing back as a veteran off the bench.
Why so serious?

Asik is essentially an expiring (only $3M guaranteed next year). We also are trying for 2 max slots next season...just in case.

What might help both teams is something like Portis/Holiday for Oubre/Smith. I think both Portis and Oubre are too good to be back-ups.

Ehhh. Oubre is better asset/has more value than Portis. You can look at stats and see they are in a similar range, but Oubre plays a much more valuable position, has a higher ceiling, and can play both ways. I have huge worries about Portis's defense.

Didnt know you'll were aiming for cap space next year. I thought you were looking for the year after, so maybe a bad fit.

Asik and Holiday to the kings for Shumpert, Koufos, and a future 2nd

Dont really need a future 2nd in this deal but ask for one anyways..

Holiday is the best player in that trade. Koufos is a good back-up C, but we (with any luck) don't need one.

I don't know that cost cutting is really in the Wizards future with Porter, Beal and Wall. Mahimni's not really a problem because he only has one more year, and the Wizards won't have salary space next year even if you dumped Mahinmi for a guy expiring this year.

Bulls don't really have need to move players for a reserve big, even for next season - at least not if the reported desire to keep Portis long term is true. Which I believe and support; I don't think Portis' defense is as bad as some folks make it out to be (both basketball reference and 82games show him as a mild net negative, outweighed by his positive impact on the offense. While he's not a rim protector, he does rebound at a decent rate -11rb per36.

We will be in the repeater tax this year. We absolutely need to cut salary (11.2M to be exact).

Hey Laker fan here, just gauging your opinion on this future trade for the 2019 FA period. Assuming you guys dont sign or intend to sign anyone major.

Luol Deng + 2020 LAL SRP for Cristiano Feliciano

It's a deal where you guys trade 2019 cap for 2020 cap space and get a SRP for the trouble. Lakers do it so that we dont need to stretch a contract to gain a max slot and we take a swing at Feliciano being a usable C for us. Ideally we'd prolly like to trade Deng + FRP to get rid of his 2019 salary outright (giving us ~11m in cap space to find the best ring chaser we can), but this deal gets us a C that might rehab his value by playing off of Lebron, and we keep our FRP to use as trade ammo in a future deal.

This deal from the Lakers PoV is way better than stretching Deng and taking a 3 year dead money hit, at least we take a chance on Feliciano on being usable, and can use his deal as salary filler in any future trade, unlike a stretched Deng.

If we somehow hit on our late FRP again (Moritz Wagner, which i doubt tbh), i can see Laker fans clamoring to not trade any FRPs away and use em ourselves. This is a nice alternative to in that we dont burn up a FRP to move Deng.
