Re: NBA Draft 2018 5.0: Lucky #7 and 22.
I'm curious If one of the teams above us are aware of the fact that one of the teams below are deadset on mpj and are trying to ratchet up the pressure to get someone to trade up. If they bring that noise this way we should simply call them on their bluff. I think it's all smoke and I hope we don't fall for it in order to secure a guy with red flags. The kid could have all the upside/talent in the world but is still a big risk. Chances are MPJ really just drops to us anyway if GarPax is that sold on him. We move up it better be for JJJ, Doncic, or Bamba. Pretty confident we'll get the guy we want regardless. Lucky #7 baby!
I don't want to go down in history as the dude who destroyed the universe!

For that argument to work, you must accept LaVar Ball as a basketball coach rather than a carnival barker. I wouldn't, I still see "coach" as a title of respect that must be earned. The level of involvement in your second example is about the complete opposite, and the concept is surely about nurture, not genetics. I would still want a true Coach's Son on my team, preferably not as the star.

I made complete opposite examples on purpose. A terrible coach with a high BBIQ son and a great coach with a terrible BBIQ son. Some fathers get coaching jobs for having great players as their children and some fathers get their children undeserved spots on NBA rosters for sharing the same last name.
The notion that a coach's son is better at understanding the game than any other player is entirely unproven, there's no tangible relation. You don't think there aren't millions of children all across the world dreaming to be in the NBA one day? I think it's shortsighted analysis and a fluff talking point; it doesn't matter who your parents are when it comes to basketball acumen and IQ, it boils down to the harder worker.

Sorry if I’ve missed it earlier in these threads, but does anyone know if The Bulls like Luka enough to draft him if he happens to fall to 7?

I just hope it’s JJJ
If we are going by hype trains, JJJ is probably the least hyped of the top 7, maybe he's the one that falls.
I can see a scenario where JJJ would fall to 7. It's based on the assumption that JJJ is the best big in terms of fit with modern NBA, but not necessarily the best in terms of superstar ceiling. He's the guy that you can easily plug to any lineup and he'll be effective. A pretty low maintenance guy in a way.
I can see Suns, Kings, Hawks, Grizzlies swing for the fence and prioritize hit or miss guys like Doncic, Ayton, Bagley, Bamba, Young, even Porter. If this happens, I think it'll depend on what Dallas wants to do, it's been a popular consensus that Dallas will pick up a big, and JJJ fits that bill. If Dallas skips, I feel Orlando will pass as well because they have Jonathan Isaac who they seem to be pretty high on. If Bulls is presented with this opportunity, I'd pick JJJ without thinking.

I don’t think Doncic drops out of top 3 tbh. If he’s there at 7 by some divine providence, the Bulls better draft him.
AKME got to go

Is there a player that you're targeting at 14?
It's possible Miles Bridges is available at #14.
Now if we land both MSU boys with JJJ at #7 and Miles at #14...

I feel like it's pretty unlikely Miles is there at 14. Personally, I'd take him over Mikal, I think he's on par with Carter and Young, but even if he goes behind all those guys, that would mean Charlotte passing on him at 11 in favor of SGA (highly unlikely), then the Clippers passing on him with both their picks even though he's clearly the best player left on the board.

If they don't, they should be fired on the spot.

If Doncic is there at #7, the odds of him not being the BPA are minuscule. The Bulls would with more than 99,5% certainty take him.
From the basketball's perspective, travel is a nice pause from being pounded to the floor.

To me, a "Coach's son" implies someone who has grown up in a family environment structured around organised sports and raised by daily instruction, observation, training and discipline. Nurture, not nature. As far as I know, this is not the case for Austin Rivers.
That type of upbringing can have many different outcomes, but the ones who survive it and don't reject it should be prepared for success in sports, either playing or coaching. Not necessarily capable of the highest individual achievements, but being willing and able to contribute to a team. Nothing supernatural about it, more like a head start on the hard work it takes, but as said I would like to have that type of individual on my team. Most aspects of the concept can apply to a pro players' child, too, and then you might also benefit from the genetics.

Clippers are interesting with those 2 picks. What about Gallinari and one or both those picks for #22 and maybe some little asset, they become players in the fa for LeBron or whoever they like. Are they interested, are we?

Nice, now let's see if Memphis & Dallas decide to play it safe.
I still think Bagley lands in Memphis. Ready to contribute now along side Gasol & Conley

I still hope one of them takes MPJ, I'm not comfortable with taking him.
Atlanta probably takes Trae. I don't think that's a smoke screen.
Memphis is the first wild card, they could trade and change the course..

They definitely have a reason for drafting him.
P.S that's his mom

Great, the NBA needs someone to challenge GSW and Curry domination of the hottest mom title!

Re: NBA Draft 2018 5.0: Lucky #7 and 22.
When the statement starts with:
"In a meeting of the minds between decision-makers Vlade Divac (GM), Ken Catanella (Asst GM) & Vivek Ranadivé, the Sacramento Kings have decided", this falls certainly on the saner end of the possible outcomes. Still it would be a shame if Doncic' career is doomed from the start. I am convinced the Kings could ruin any prospect short of LeBron.
