Whats not to like about VJ? Put up 15/5.6/3.2/2.1. Super athletic. Plays really good dense. Good rebounder. Good distributor. Will be just 20 during his rookie year. The only thing to worry about is if he measures 6'2". Maluach is more a project.

I'd definitely take a stab at Bailey, his talent is very good and him playing with a distributor like Giddey will help him further.

A Giddey/Coby/Bailey/Buzelis/Smith(?) starting line-up would be exciting, IMO.

I'm big on both Edgecombe and Maluach, Edgecombe's main concern is his height, but the defense and athleticism is there, he'd also play well off of Giddey as would Maluach eventually.

Regardless of if we draft 9th or 16th

You can always trade that draft pick if some team wants to start over

Devin/Suns, Zion/pels, Ja/Memphis etc. everyone wants to go thr traditional tanking route when a great alternative is right there : disgruntled young stars

Best clips I’ve seen on Beringer so far. Watch from 12:30 on. Kid runs like a gazelle. Crazy motor and feel on defense.

Based on this, I believe even more that drafting Maluach is the knee-jerk draft for need move that rarely gets you the best player at your pick. I'll add that IMO this is even more true with bigs "with potential".

All I'll say is character, IQ and energy go a long way in the NBA. If Malauch checks those boxes, his lack of on-ball skills could come around. But you do draft him realizing there's a strong bust/low-minute probability, or more likely, a decent development cycle for a role-player with no star-ceiling guarantee.

But I think the pay-off and chance of immediate impact defense is solid too. So I don't like drafting that kind of a pick in top-10, but sounds like your average 11-14th pick: a player with fairly even 33% odds of not panning out into anything meaningful, being a solid role-player, or perhaps a perennial all-star. I don't favor the "bust" scenario with him. Seems way too active off-the-ball. I could see him never adding more than garbage buckets. Rudy and Gafford seem fine in that regard. Of course you don't build around them.

Egor Denim is on my radar. End of the day, seems like lanky playmakers and ball handlers are still the best investment in the draft, assuming their 3P shot and defensive mechanics show promise.

I'm not sold on Maluach, but maybe he can do what Yves Missi did in New Orleans this year...? If so, that's okay.

However, I agree with you that picking him most likely means passing on someone else who has more potential. It'd be similar to passing on Mata last year for Missi.

I'm not big on Denim, but I think the argument is that you can never have enough players like that. Or maybe some people think he has the most upside...?

Who do you think the Bulls should pick at 10 or 11?

If the Bulls make the playoffs and are picking 15th or so then this is someone I'd want the Bulls to take a hard look at.

Carter Bryant is definitely on my radar.

From 2013-2022, at least one pick in the 10-20 range became an all-star. Maybe a coincidence, but since 2004, only 5 drafts (06,07,12,23,24) haven't had an all-star in this pick range.

Maluach probably won't be the all-star or best player with our pick if he's there at 10. Looking at a consensus big board, if I had to pick it would probably be Fear, Traore, or Jase, but we aren't looking to add another guard.

Why draft a player who's max upside puts him into conflict with a core player? Enough players like what? He shooting 27% from 3 and 69% at the FT line. 3 months ago Giddey wasnt worth 15M per to most Bulls fans. At 10 I'd rather have Khaman Maluach, Derik Queen or Collin Murray-Boyles.

I’d draft the best guy. I think Queen and Khaman will be gone at 10 anyway (assuming we don’t go back to 12).

Egor’s ceiling is nice:

https://youtu.be/3aYtZj9w6uI?si=VcEZY-Of1PjuwayD

What’s wrong with developing another triple-double? Looks like a Billy PF to me anyway. That handle and vision for 6’9 is excellent. Either way he’d be a 3Y project.

I like Malauch as a prospect, regardless of our need for rim protection. Been sold. But I see him as a 20 MPG prospect. Chance he’ll be too weak to defend Cs. I don’t know for sure, but it’s a risk. If he can’t defend the NBA post-up, he’ll be unplayable at PF obviously, so he’s a position-less risk (bad kind) until he gains strength (probable) or offensive skills (ambiguous). Fine 10-14 pick imo. But I’d put Egor in strong consideration.

Ultimately I think AK doesn’t believe in 1-way defenders at C. I think he’d rather die on the Vuc hill. Obviously Vuc’s very bad. You can get away with a mediocre defensive C. But it’s very hard to win with a terrible offensive C with 0 on-ball skills these days. You’re pretty much better off playing a dinosaur (Horford), a tweener (DJJ). Bam, Chet, Wemby are good ball-handlers.

Giddey looking like his max self isn't considered a #1 and also questions persist how he would look without being the lead ball handler. Why would you want another similar guy who most likely won't get to Giddeys level? Would they even be playable at the same time?

No one believes in one way defense centers. Khaman has way more upside then that. His ultimate upside is Wemby. More realistic is Gobert with perimeter play. Even low development makes him playable with a 7'8" standing reach. Him hitting big time depends on his work ethic, but seems like a good kid. Draft workouts will likely push him outside of the Bulls range anyway.

Malauch’s upside is Wemby? No, it’s not. Wemby was the best prospect since Lebron. Malauch averages 0.1 3Ps a game, 1.4 FTs, and mostly catches lobs for dunks on 16% usage.

Giddey and Lonzo are playable. Terry’s been playable with Giddey. It doesn’t matter who Giddey plays with- he needs to play well (cough, make shots) or else he’s a waste of a starting spot, and if you draft Egon, he needs to play well too (cough shoot) or else he’s no good with whoever he plays with.

Return to Chicago Bulls
