I think it's becoming more and more common for teams to do this. the analytics point to this being a good play.

If you pass up a field goal and get the first down you still have to put the ball in the end zone from 30 yards out. The best td red zone percentage in the NFL last season was 75%. Multiple teams were under 50%.

The average 4th down conversion rate is right at 50%. Well... not for Nagy...but....

You mentioned analytics. The Bears passed up a 50 yard field goal.
