Phil lives in LA, he isn't going to LA. Melo also has a house there. It has also been known that the Knicks were going to meet with him after he met with the other teams. The likely scenario is that they had this meeting set up all week...people need to stop reading into things.
Reports are that Kobe is not going to be able to make the Melo-Lakers meeting because that meeting has been moved up. The only reason that Melo would want to move the Lakers meeting forward would be to meet with Phil. If Phil was going to be coming all along, there would not have been this last minute time shift. It's pretty clear that Phil asked, at the last minute, for another meeting with Melo today, and Melo said yes.
