Fleet, can you go ahead and post that roller coaster pic from a few threads back again....I get the feeling that this is exactly what we are headed for.

Re: Melo 16- If it's meant to be, it's meant to be
Totally believe Ralph but just trying to get my head around how this is even possible. Here is what we know
1) If we are using the MLE means we are not anestying Boozer in this scenario.
2) if we are not amnestying Boozer and are using the MLE means we would not be acquiring Gasol through cap space. So has to be a laker sign and trade of Gasol.
3) Would be getting Gasol for Gibson's exact salary, so we save no money in Gasol. Must be giving up Gibson for some other reason.
4) We would be signing Melo for the max which means has to be a NY sign and trade.
So overall we would have to be getting Gasol and Melo both through sign and trades. To get a maxed out Melo in a sign and trade from NY they need to take back 17.5m in salary. Of course this could be accomplished through giving then Boozer but in that scenario it's not clear how Gasol gets Melo a max contract with the Bulls. For Gasol to be integral must be that the Lakers the ones taking Boozer. What expiring do the lakers have? Looks like Nash is the main one at 9.7M. So we need to produce another 7.7M in palatable contacts for PJ to take. We've got 4M in non guaranteeds and Dunleavey and Snell.
So could be the Knicks get:
Nash/Dunleavy/Snell/non-guaranteeds+picks or other Bulls assets eg McD or Butler
Lakers get:
Gibson/Boozer+picks or other Bulls assets eg McD or Butler
Bulls get:
Melo/Gasol
Seems like this almost has to be the general outline of the trade implied by Raphs post, assuming a fourth team is not involved. Question is does it make sense for the Lakers or Knicks? Especially since both seem keen on signing Melo outright themselves. Why do they help us get him for more money than they could otherwise offer? And what does either want with Gibson, who doesn't seem like a great fit with their target horizons of contention? I would have thought the rights to Mirotic would have been the more valuable commodity to them.

If they trade Howard for Melo and sign Bosh as the FA, then you are looking at:
Beverly
Harden
Parsons
Melo
Bosh
No size, but lot of scoring.
That team better score 135 per game cause they're giving up 130. Actually, that team couldn't score enough to even be taken seriously, that D would be so awful.

Seems as though we've entered the bargaining stage here at RealGm.
I still firmly believe no Melo. I just hope we don't spend what money we do have solely on Pau Gasol. Just get Mirotic.
3 team trades bringing back Melo and then signing Gasol? I don't have that level of confidence in our Front Office.
Again, just get Mirotic signed. Baby steps.

Inspirational wrote:You guys probably won't believe me, but I have strong connections in the Knicks organization. I'm a Knick fan so this hurts but I can only report what I've heard in the last few hours.
Melo has informed the Knicks today that they are out of the running. He really like the direction of the organization with Phil, but he's just not comfortable with this years roster. Melo has NOT made a final decision on his new team yet, but Melo has a soft spot for the Knicks and thought he should let them know ASAP so they can go on about their off-season and make other plans.
From what I can gather, Melo's two top choices are Chicago and Houston. He's deciding between those two and will likely have a decision before the weekend is over. I asked 3 people where they thought Melo was going...2 of them said Chicago...1 said Houston. They also speculated Gasol's decision could make an impact on the final decision.
As we've heard from Woj and others, Gasol has multiple options right now so this could drag out a bit.
Good grief. This is all too much. You guys have been giving me hope for the last 20 pages. Now I'm getting excited again, which means I can easily be let down in a day or too
