I guess they gambled on the luxury of having a lead. I think for a W, it would have been smart to run as you said and punt

Is there any word on Dalton's injury?

This was a huge drive. Montgomery and Fields are so freaking special. 100% worth trading up for.

You're kidding, right? Mont. is averaging around 3 yards a carry, and Field's just threw a pick that let Cincy back in the game.

Um, they had to get two first downs to win the game.

Fields scrambled on 3rd down, broke a tackle from a DE, stayed in bounds and got down to get the 1st down.

Monty willed that second first down with his second effort.

Getting Ws in the NFL is not easy. The gameplan was 100% suited for Dalton's skillset and there were countless drops by our WRs. It's going to take a little bit of time but it's there.

um, no they didn't. they had to get zero first downs, not turn the ball over and not get run over on defense. they were up 10. should've been total prevent mode

fields looked good other than that throw, the false starts and the fumble (which he did well to prevent turning into total disaster), but i expect dalton back under center next week

Dalton should not start next week and Nagy should give up playcalling. The Fields interception was a great play from the linebacker more than a bad throw or bad read on Fields part. The Burrows interception thrown to Smith was much worse considering he stared down the receiver.
Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.

Looked like a strained calf muscle. But I’m no doctor.

I love the Fields pick and have a lot of confidence in him long term. I would also start Fields immediately even if it means we tank this season because I think you only learn significantly by playing and that sitting him just slows his development.

That said, he was pretty lousy in this game. His best play may have been the bomb to Robinson that was dropped but should have been a TD. Scrambling for a 1st was a nice play but only required because he nearly gave the game away with a stupid pick the previous drive, failed to convert on multiple close chances set up by the defense, and was only winning due to our defensive score and score by Dalton.

I'm confident in Fields long term, but I don't know how you spin this into a "special" day for him. This was a very poor performance.
