Also Doug Collins gets much respect too. The guy you can tell would much rather be seeing Rose in Game 2.

Yeah I was at the game and saw Derrick go down while play kept going. Doug Collins was the first checking on Derrick to see if he was OK and was immediately screaming for the Bulls training staff to come check on him.

How silent was the stadium? Could ya hear a pin drop?

I've always liked Collins. Seems like a genuine man. Always respect for him.

It got quiet, a few people were talking so it wasn't dead quiet, but still you could feel the energy drained out of the building. Once he got carried off there was a loud MVP chant for him.

Its great to hear from others who have experienced what Derrick is about to go through. Its also great to hear that they too are pulling for him and have so much respect for him as well. We just have to be patient.

I'll never forget how bummed out I was when Jamal tore his ACL in the offseason. That was right after his rookie year when Floyd never let him play. And we just drafted Tyson and Eddy, traded Brand, and were rebuilding for the second time. And then JC blows out the knee in a pickup game.

Derrick's injury is definitely more devastating than that, but not quite as devastating as Jay Williams' motorcycle accident. Couldn't even imagine Derrick suffering a carer ending injury. That horrible memory makes me so glad that Derrick will at least return sometime next season.

I am sure Rose will work his butt off in rehab and his game. It might be true that Rose we know may not be back, however that doesn't mean Rose's career will ended.

I believe in Rose and he will become better smart and better player instead rely on his physical gift. If Tony Parker can tear up other team at age of 30, there is no reason Rose can't do it even rose is only 80% of his former self.

all this changing his game and stop relying on physical gifts is too much IMO. he's 23. he came to a jump stop. is he not supposed to jump stop anymore?

nothing i have read or heard leads me to believe Derrick will have to reinvent his game. I believe he will come back just as explosive, its just that it will take time to get over the physical and mental hurdles.

Someone else here posted that that move he tore his ACL on was very similar to the move he put on Derrick Fisher in the season opener. I have no doubt in my mind that Derrick could of done that move 10,000 times this season and never gotten injured. But unfortunately he was never able to completely heal himself after that toe injury.

I think the combination of weakened muscles from lack of playing and his timing being off is what lead to the torn ACL.

Honestly, looking at the play...The jumpstop he performed is kind of a classic Derrick Rose move. Not just the jumpstop itself, but the way he completed it and honestly the reason why he got injured. He came to a jumpstop, had his upper-body angling to the rim and his lower body angling toward Boozer for a pass. He was going to go (and did) immediately back up after jumping but the twist in his body is probably what led to the injury. If he just does a jump stop either facing the rim or facing Boozer for the pass, he probably doesn't get injured.

I'm saying all that to say, Rose probably SHOULD stop jump stopping...At least in that fashion.

I thought it looked like Derrick's left foot landed akwardly. Almost like his foot moved around in his shoe when he landed or like his shoe wasn't tied tight enough. I'd go look at the video again, but I don't think I can stomach it. Seen it way too many times in the last 24 hours.

I hope he does yoga or something to improve his flexibility/balance between muscle groups or whatever. Lifting is fine as well, as long as he doesn't neglect other steps that could help keep him healthy.

Wholeheartedly agree with you both. I think something like yoga would do wonders in preventing future injuries. The improved flexibility is key here.

Also, I think Air Poohdini is right too. At the beginning of this season, most of us were worried about some players (e.g., Noah) bulking up too much and losing their agility and hustle.

For Rose, I think the increase in muscle mass would force him to rely less on his athleticism.

Maybe we'll see him utilize those post up moves he said he was working on, and being stronger will only make them more effective.
