I like 'Bucket Boys' alot better. But anyways, I have a feeling Mirotic is going to have a break out sometime this season.

I give the edge to Nikola, at least in year one and then who knows what will happen after they get a season under their belts.

 That Ray nickname makes me laugh every time. Brooks acting like he didn't know who Doug McDermott was. Brooks man, Dougie McBuckets is more well known than you have ever been.

That's debatable.

I already coined The Drain Train. This is reserved for the addition of Tony Snell, IF he can prove to be a decent NBA player and 3 point threat.

First, the drain train sounds like a vile porn title.

Second, when did Doug or Nikola establish themselves as decent NBA players and 3 point threats? Lets not give nicknames to our 9th and 10th men. They both are going to need time to adjust and will be up and down most of the year.

If these two start tearing it up, while playing together, then we can talk nicknames.

Just based on my observations from watching the preseason, Mirotic looks a lot more NBA ready. He has nice handles for a big man, agile offensive moves, good court vision, and has been surprising active on defense. I think he'll get more playing time than many think once Noah/Pau/Taj inevitably get hurt and miss games.

I'm looking at McDermott being a rookie Korver as his best scenario this season. He needs to get stronger and more accustomed to the NBA level of speed and physicality. Nikola does too, but my eye test sees him as more NBA ready right now.

Possibly neither.

Doug has to go through a very difficult transition from PF to NBA caliber wing.
In college his post game, cut to the rims, and iso near the basket were a big part of his game.

DX:
He ranks 1st in this group using 24.7% of his possessions in the post, but also ranks above average in the proportion of his possessions coming on cuts and off screens, as his father drew up plays to get him open by any means necessary. He ranks below average in spot-up and isolation usage

I also think he could use some physical training for the SF position. That usually means a longer adjustment period, like Noah had adjusting to NBA center.

Mirotic OTOH will be playing the same position in the NBA, and even played some center on RM. Mirotic's teammates & competition are about lower grade NBA level, including multiple former NBA players.

Physically, Mirotic is faster and taller than most NBA PFs and with better handles.

But there's no minutes for him.

Exactly. Mirotic does look more ready than Doug, but hes buried in the rotation while Doug has an easier path to playing time. I think Doug will have a typical rookie year and Mirotic will show nice flashes, but I think our future looks brighter with these guys. I have patience with them but what we all are wondering is what can they contribute this season, Doug will be a floor stretcher and Mirotic I think will be a Toni Kukoc part 2

Realistically I don't see how Noah/Pau/Taj don't miss a combined 40 games due to injuries or rest, so that's half the season where Nikola could play 28+ mpg. Thibs would be wise to rest Noah and Pau for ten games each simply based on their history of fragility alone.

I changed the thread title so that you're not, as others have rightly protested, continuing to shove your unbelievably vile nickname down everyone's throats and hence trolling our board. That's going to stop. You can use it in your sig, but threads such as this one are just attempts to saturate everyone and further your unpopular agenda. Please consider this your final warning on the subject.

So it's OK for mods to troll me and ruin my poll on a legitimate topic? Who cares if I use a nickname I like. The point still stands that it is a good topic. We'll see what Howard Mass thinks.

Maybe you should have thought of that before you turned your "legitimate topic" into a clown show with your title. We'll see you in court counselor.

You'd have to think that McDermott will have the better year purely due to opportunity, but both guys have showed a fairly similar level of ability so far.

McDermott seems to be making less mistakes, and the attention he attracts is big, but he's not having a massive impact on the box score on this point.

Mirotic has shown a more immediate ability to put up a big night, but through the flashes of ability it's clear he needs more time to acclimate his game to the league.

Excited for both, they're the future, and have both been approximately at expectations so far for me.
