I just don't want to pigeonhole a player like Baldwin because we have a need. At #14, we have the luxury of taking the BPA if someone falls. If that doesn't sync up with needs, then go fix that in free agency. Ellenson needs work on defense, he's 11.2% body fat so he needs to get into better shape. That'll help his quickness, but the dude still averaged 1.5 blocks per game (compared to Portis' 0.4 his last year in college).

Ellenson is the no-brainer value pick. Realistically he won't be there, and I would go with Prince.

Ellenson is an awesome value pick at 14, but the fit is beyond awful. Not sure the Bulls can afford to have that many draft picks and roster spots tied up in young bigs who can't protect the rim or guard the PnR.

I think if the lottery breaks that way I might take Furkan Korkmaz. He's a really nice offensive talent, and a hell of a shooter. If he had played college ball vs. being overseas, I think he would get more love. To me, what Ingram is as a 3, Korkmaz is as a 2 = tall and long for his position, really nice shooter.

If it really goes down like this or similar I think I would prefer to trade down and see if we can get maybe two picks for one.

If that's how it goes, we have to pick up Baldwin IMO.

Not sure why everyone is so high on Baldwin. He only averaged 15-5 in college.

Baldwin by a solid margin. Thanks for playing and good luck in the draft.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Wade Baldwin is garbage....why do we want a 6'4 SG? Nbadraft.net has the guy in the 2nd round. Bulls are in rebuild mode, we need the player with the highest potential or a guy that slips an falls to us. Dont reach for need...take BPA if you have too. Nobody on this team spot should be safe.

he is an off ball PG but if you want to characterize him like that he is a 6'4" SG with the measurements of an SF+

Ellenson would not be the best available player and he would be a terrible fit for the team for all the same reasons that Mirotic is a bad fit for the team. Out of all the players available Baldwin has the best chance to become an all-star with his athleticism, size, and 3 point shooting for a point guard. Derrick is probably gone after next year and/or he will get injured next season so this pick also makes sense for a rebuild.

Thon Maker.

I'd gamble on the high potential player.

Ellenson is a very solid player, but his lack of athleticism along with his poor defense is what makes me overlook him. We just got done with a season where half our fans wanted Pau's head because of his terrible D. At least he could block shots at the basket. You have to tinker with too many lineups to ensure Ellenson can stay on the floor. The only big he'd be able to play with would be Taj.

I agree that Ellenson projects to be a poor defender and that makes him a bad immediate fit on the Bulls. But couldn't you say that same about prime Dirk Nowitzki or Kevin Love? I don't expect Ellenson to be as good as either of those players. Arguably, however, he projects as an NBA starter and Baldwin projects as a backup. I don't believe that a team should always take the best player available. It's okay to consider fit when two players are close in the talent department. But we're only one month removed from Ellenson being projected as a top 10 pick and Baldwin being projected as a borderline first-round pick. It gets complicated because Baldwin's had this meteoric rise and there's this strange consensus among fans that his draft stock has deservingly shot through the roof after the college season ended. In any event, I think that any Bulls fan should have serious pause about passing on a player like Ellenson, who at least some scouts consider to be a clear step above the remaining prospects in this mock draft. Passing on a player who's the best available by a considerable margin is almost always an egregious error.

I wouldn't mind a guy like Ellenson if the defense tightens up at the PG spot. Especially the backup PG spot. Then getting a guy like Biyombo to protect the paint would even make things better.

I agree that we should be drafting the best player available, but I disagree on Ellenson being the consensus BPA if he drops. I don't think Ellenson is a clear step above the remaining prospects in that 5-15 range, and it seems like with Draft Express's latest mock draft, scouts are changing their minds about him as well.

It seems like there are so many players in that 5-20 range who could have a wide variety of outcomes in the NBA. Picking the best player available is going to be highly subjective, rather than objective. I think a lot of players in that range could be successful in the NBA if they end up in the right system, but a lot of them could also be busts if the fit is poor. Like you said, I'd rather pick a player in our draft range based on fit, as opposed to BPA, because we have no clue who the BPA is going to be.
