I mean we all know whats going to happen. Pax "retires" and they replace him with Doug Collins.

All of our picks, no bad long term contracts, and the youngest team in the league.
Not sure its as bad as you say. Could be better, sure, but also could be a lot worse. The reason we have a bleak outlook is our management/ownership/coaching, less so the players.

I'd think letting the new GM (or whatever the leader is) see now things are running and evaluating the current regime the rest of the year would be valuable. There are likely good people employed right now. Let the new executive come in and evaluate the culture, employees and players BEFORE the offseason.
I don't think there are any benefits. The Reinsdorfs really like Gar and Pax. Both personally and as far as how they manage the team to squeeze out dollars while deflecting fan interest towards the 2047 plan. They are likely going to give it until the end of the year to see if things turn around.
I can't agree here. If the decision is made (which I highly doubt) then move on. The benefit is getting to work sooner and showing the players, free agents and fans that change is on its way.

An outsider? So Gar will be replaced by... who’s Iowa State’s AD?

Gar is the ISU connection. Hopefully he's going back to Aimes.

I'm confused. I said "I don't think there are any benefits." You said you can't agree and then seem to agree.

Agreed. Also important to give the new guy enough time to evaluate the draft.

They'll say they're reassigning Gar to a different role and act like it means something, even though we all know he's had no real power in the organization for a few years now since Paxson has taken over.

I feel like Gar will be the fall guy, but they definitely will do that to Pax.

That's the only way I see meaningful change being made: If Paxson retires. I don't see Jerry firing him.
As for the replacement: You'd think it'd have to be someone already within the organization. Colins may not want it, but I could see it going to their G-League GM or something.
Masai Ujiri would be the ultimate pipedream, or Sam Hinkie, but I don't see that ever coming to fruition.

Re: David Kaplan: There will be meaningful change after this season
I don't listen to sports talk radio but I mostly see Kaplan on Cubs post game shows and he's not one to say off the wall stuff just trying to draw attention to himself so something could happen. But don't kid yourselves, there's no miracle worker out there waiting to come to Chicago. Every team that hires new people acts like they've finally found "THEIR GUY" andthey're almost all wrong almost every time
Oh come on, get on the fire everybody in the building from Pax down to the janitorial staff and start over train.
The main thing the current management has done is avoided being stuck with aging players with long term contracts that they either have to buy out or give up FRPs to get rid of. Other teams do that all the time and their new savior GMs never recover from them.
They do have a young team, 3 recent #7 picks, and a SRP that looks promising, yes they could have gotten lucky and not fallen to #7 a couple of those times. Would everybody be as upset if they had managed to get the #3 pick and taken Doncic? The FAs they signed haven't broken the bank nor been washouts or worse troublemakers. What they haven't been able to do is find that one guy that blossomed and became a superstar, but you know what, most teams that drafted before and after them didn't find that guy either. Could Lavine be a top 10 player in the league, apparently not but they gave him the freedom to show it and he's not consistent enough, not that good at closing out games. He was injured in MINN and wasn't given the chance to get that job done so they had to take the chance on him. OK so they took Lauri and he's not consistent enough nor really tough enough to close games. You can't guess how a 20 year old is going to react to pressure.

I don’t think they will ever fire Paxson but this job may be getting to him where internally he is telling the Reinsdorf’s that he is quitting at the end of the year.

Michael Reinsdorf will be the one conducting the interviews.
That info right there is all that you need to know. It will be a bust signing. Michael is the same clown who’s happy with GarPax and the rebuilding process to this point until Uncle Jerry wakes up from his slumber and pimp slaps Michael on the head.

For this reason it feels to me like Paxson is almost guaranteed to remain with the team. Firing Gar isn’t going to appease anyone or turn this ship around.

Honestly not sure about even Hinkie... it's not like you can "Process" the draft anymore. What else would have have up his sleeve?

Agree. Not sure what Sam Hinkie's ever done to want him to be running your basketball operation. The only thing we know about him is that he's really really good at building an NBA team that can lose more games than anyone.

Hiring better decision makers for free agent signings and coaching will be a meaningful change, but even if that happens, the Bulls are most likekly still years away from being a winning team/playoff contender.

To be fair you can name a GM you would like i could likely give you 10 reasons he would be a bad pick. NBA is the hardest sport to win a title because unless you have 2-3 top 10 players its almost impossible to win a title.

Don't do us like that KapRedBulls23 wrote:I listen to ESPN 1000 every day during work, and Kap keeps saying today that there will be meaningful change in the front office according to sources close to the team that he knows.
And this time, they won't just hire someone they know. Michael will apparently go outside the org and interview new voices.
Now I guess we can believe it when we see it, but if true that is absolutely GREAT news.
