What's wrong with Atkinson? Didn't he do a legit job in NJ?

Really probably no way to know what the accusations against Griffin hold. I probably wouldn't jump into that legal fire just due to the potential for it to go spectacularly wrong fast. I like Griffin too as a candidate, and maybe this is all BS, but there's really just know way to know and he'd have to be head and shoulders ahead of everyone else to take on that type of legal risk going in.

Maybe he is head and shoulders better of course, but I have no reason to think or know so.

How bout Jeff bzdelik? A little old, but he's from Chicago, he's been a strong assistant for a long time. Even turned around a bad nuggets squad as head coach way back in 2003.

I like Dave Joerger.

It seems in both stops, Memphis and SAC, he was unceremoniously ousted despite him doing really well. In Sacramento he was fired because the owner was an idiot.

Not that I'm super excited about these guys.

yeah, my bad...just bringing up the less-talked about candidates.

jgonboricua wrote:Im curious though why others would not want kenny atkinson?

on one hand, he's good with developing young players and implementing a solid system to get the most out of them, leading to winning a respectable amount of games.

on the other hand, he's not considered a player-friendly coach, as KD and kyrie quickly soured on him, and rumors say that led to his firing. i'd say player relationships will be a huge factor if we're trying to attract max free agents next summer.

He doesnt fit what the Bulls want.

The Athletic’s Jason Jones reported Thursday that Joerger’s relationships with players is something that had started deteriorating as of late, and that’s in addition to the front office drama between him and Brandon Williams that threatened to derail a promising season — something Divac pointed to as a reason for letting Joerger and Williams go.

In an explosive article detailing a myriad of communication issues between Joerger, players and team officials, Jones said Dave Joerger’s over-reliance on veteran Iman Shumpert was a reason Shumpert was dealt away. Jones also highlighted Joerger’s apparent disconnect with Sacramento’s Marvin Bagley III.

“Joerger never seemed to connect with prized rookie Marvin Bagley III, leaving the second overall pick to wonder privately if Joerger even liked him.” said Jones.

Jones also noted that Harry Giles and Buddy Hield also had private concerns about Dave Joerger remaining the head coach, and several front office executives didn’t like how Joerger handled the roster and rotations as the Sacramento Kings fumbled a prime opportunity to make the playoffs after the All-Star Break.

Listening to Artunas' press conference... the man is such a straight-shooter. LOL - I feel like the usual Bulls press is slightly intimidated talking to him. The questions were so stupid. Not one press person asked "what type of offense are you envisioning for Lauri, Zach and Coby?"

He's dry and to the point like Popovich, which is refreshing. You ask dumb questions like "Were you aware that Jim had bad player relationships, and did those affect your decision to fire him?" and you'll get back a dry response with no substance for your Tweet.

My view on Atkinson is this:
First 2 years: God awful record with god awful talent, not much to blame here, but no reason to cheer about it
3rd year: Talent develops, decent record (.500) certain exceeded expectations, maybe he's a big part of the reason maybe not
4th year: Fired because stars don't want to play for him

I wouldn't be surprised if Atkinson went on to be a good head coach, but that resume isn't like "oh my god, go get this guy" either.

Eh, that reporter was looking to write a story throwing Boylen under the bus and trying to get a quote.

No one was looking to write a story about what kind of offense the Bulls will run under a future coach that isn't hired right now that will decide what that future offense looks like. I mean, I get why you're interested in that, but I also understand why no one asked things like that.

If someone did, you would also likely get a dry response like, the new coach will make that evaluation.

I don’t follow the league enough to have a worthwhile opinion, but I did enjoy the Ham, Udoka, Hammond intellectual exchange.

If you do, I guarantee I’ll start participating in game threads for the first time in about 10 years.

AK has such strong European ties, I wonder if he would be ballsy enough to try some unknown Euro coach? It’s a talent pool that isn’t dipped into and honestly the Euro game fits today’s NBA rather well.

The relationship between head coach and players is pretty critical. I think the cultural differences here would make this something I'd not want to be on the early adopter train. Blatt was a complete failure in Cleveland. Not sure if anyone else has tried it.

New Age in Chicago Bulls basketball.

Post#40 » by The Box Office » Fri Aug 14, 2020 11:14 pm

I can't believe it. We're witnessing a new era. New GM. New Head Coach. New trainers. Same chef. The time is now.

This is sad for the previous posters here who died during the last 10 years.
