Where do you see this?
Would be a disappointing season from Caleb but if we're 12th on offense and 13th on defense, seems like a playoff team.
I think we'll be worse on the ground than these projections but better through the air

He's got a lot of potential. A lot will depend on how they use him. Kmet was criminally under-utilized last year I thought. We are going to have 5 legitimate weapons at WR and TE next season. If Caleb can learn the system and spread the ball around, the offense could be so much better than last year.
The addition of Loveland will do so much more than what can be measured in catches and yardage. When he and Kmet are on the field at the same time it puts the defense in such a bind. Do they go with a base defense with an extra linebacker or do they go nickel with 5 DBs. And what happens if they line up Loveland in the slot, or even out wide? Add in the pressure on the defense by adding Luther Burden in the slot with his 4.40 speed. It may take half a season for it all to click but the Bears are going to be giving opposing defensive coordinators nightmares on Saturday nights.

While not a precise match, those projections closely match Mike Clay's projections (his 200 page guide is available with google search) . Which if you want an indicator of his stuff, he has Jaylon Johnson projected as the 54th CB and T Stevenson as 15th (see page 53 of his guide).

That is about what we thought last year with DJ, KA Kmet and Rome.
It really will come down to CW.

What we saw last year belies that above assumption about adding targets to the offense, correct. Caleb and BJ have to get the ball out from the pocket, and with volume accuracy on time. Otherwise it doesn’t matter if Jerry Rice, Gronk, and Randy Moss are running routes for the Bears. TBD on if there is good reason for the optimistic assumptions by Bears fans about all this. The Bears did have reasonably league average time to get the ball out and hit receivers in volume last season, contrary to some opinions. They couldn’t do it, with reasonable opportunity to do so. The quarterback had a problem that pressure does not fully explain. It was not because there weren’t enough targets here already, Shane Waldron, or Braxton Jones. There is no inevitable positive outcome in 2025. There is certain uncertainty.

I wonder what we do with the extra $8m cap space. Za'Darius Smith would be nice. Judon? Chubb?

Maybe if we could trade DJ Moore we'd be able to afford Hendrickson?

I think getting both Smith and Chubb would be an excellent way to finish the off-season. Smith had about 8 sacks last season, I think. And I wouldn't be surprised ifChubb worked his way to being the primary back towards the end of the season. Jadaveon Clowney would be a nice pickup as well ( I think he's a FA). Statically, he's had good production the past handful of seasons.

Yes, you're right Panthermark. It will come down to CW, and either CW can make the jump or he can't. But we just upgraded our OL from mid to superior. That extra time in the pocket *should* be crucial for CW. If Dresden and Almost Retired are right about Loveland and Burden, IDK how we can look at a season in which CW plays mid as anything more than a disappointment. That is a TON of support over the offseason. Poles has given CW every reason to succeed.

Re: Bears 12.0
Unless I'm forgetting something, we basically have all our major positions locked up for the duration of Williams' rookie contract after Thuney's extension. The only ones that aren't locked up long term are Byard, Edmunds, and RB (possibly DE, but Poles probably doesn't think we need a starter). Those positions are relatively easy to replace in next years draft or cheap, but still productive, free agents.
With that in mind, I think we'd be in pretty good position to trade for a player that would put us over the top. Unless its for an edge or LT, this type of trade would probably only make sense once we get close to the trade deadline. Before we make an "over the top" trade, we'd have to first see if we're even close to being a top team. The obvious name that comes to mind if Hendrickson, but he might be too expensive for us. I think Jalen Ramsey could be a potential target for this. Regardless of who it is, I think the idea would be to target an pro-bowl to all-pro level players who might be a little older and is on an non-competing team. But again, this would only make sense if we do it closer to the deadline and get a good idea of how good we are. Might not even make sense until next off-season or trade deadline. But, I think we are close to making a move like that. Kinda like what the rams did when they won

Re: Bears 12.0
I think we are in a great position, roster-wise, for the rest of Williams' rookie deal. I'd say we are about 90% of having a fully complete roster. As of today, I'd say our biggest needs are LT, future S, future ILB, and future RB )I'll leave off DE because I don't see Dayo not being the starter for at least the next two seasons). And as for those four positions, we could potentially drafted our future LT and Poles could decide to bring back Byard and Edmunds. I think Swift is definitely gone. Even if we need to replace all four, I think we'd be in great position to do so next off-season.
Sign Kolton Miller
Draft Caleb Downs (hopefully we'd be too good to draft him)
Sign Quincey Williams
Sign Breece Hall (or draft a RB in he 2nd or third)
If we can pull off something like that, we'd be in a great position going into Williams' contract extension

Interesting that hes projected to have a worse year (in my eyes) than last year with all the upgrades in OL, coaching, and pass catching.
I understand the sacks are way down in the projection, but I would assume they'd naturally go way down with scheme, OL play, and natural processing/progression improvements from Caleb.

If Caleb still needs extra extra time to throw the ball, the lead is getting murdered and buried. If we want to extend his TTT up to 3 seconds, it’s uncomfortable but some quarterbacks play that way just about. But again, either Caleb is able to process the plays, or we are having discussions we don’t want to have.
