I'd like to see someone with championship expirience as a player or coach. My partial list would be:

Michael Cooper
Paul Silas
Kurt Rambis
Craig Hodges
Del Harris
Bill Lambeer(ugh)
Jim Clemons
Paul Westhead

I do think that whoever the next coach is, I'd like to see Pippen as an assistant coach.

No college coaches.
No retreads.
Must have NBA player experience.
Currently an assistant or coach somewhere in the NBA system.
As close to Nate McMillan as we can get.

That translates to (in no particular order):

Terry Porter
Michael Cooper
Mario Ellie (totally enthusiastic player and always seemed like a potentially great coach)
Where is Craig Hodges coching?
Anyone else out there?

Questions:
What's Budelholzer's background?
What about Kenny the Jet?

Hodges is currently an assistant with the Lakers. I listed him because
1. Two rings with the Bulls
2. He's a guy who wasn't a superstar but was an effective player, also could probably connect with Gordon.
3. Always seemed to have a great attitude. I don't recall ever seeing him down.

Scratch Hodges from my list. Was just reading up on him and learned that he had filed a $40 million lawsuit against the NBA for discrimination and that he has ties to Louis Farrakhan. Probably not someone Stern would like to see coaching in his league.

Jeff Van Gundy
Larry Brown
Rick Carslie

I know people don't like Brown but if he was willing to sign a two year deal( i wouldn't give him a contract for any longer) I think he can help the Bulls.

I just think guys like Hinrich, Gordon, their games could improve under Brown.

What I like about Brown is not allowing the team to take many threes plus he also teaches you to take the good shot and teaches a very controled game. He knows how to limit the other teams attempts.

I also would loved Van Gundy. I think he knows how to win and is a little more player friendly and same thing likes a controled offense

I don't think I could stand watching a Van Gundy game. It's like watching Digger Phelps' ND teams in the 70s. Painfully slow. And if you want to see any of the young players actually play, Brown Out.

No retreads.

Cassell and AD are real interesting ideas. But, I'm sorry to say, I don't think Pip has the brains for head coaching.

Bill Laimbeer

The inmates would no longer be running the asslyum

    he's a native Chicago boy

he wants to coach in the NBA

    he's not a retread

    he can mentor players

it sounds crazy, even to me but just imagine the fans reaction if this happened. i can't think of anyone else that would spark as much interest. i hated this guy as a player but i love the idea of him coaching the Bulls.

What about John Thompson III at Georgetown? Any way we could lure him away to the big show?

4 years heading the Princeton program, and now three years at Georgetown. Would he ever leave Georgetown?

Me too, I'm really surprised Bulls fans would want any of them, now, for this team.

There is something oddly appealing about the idea of Blll Laimbeer becoming the next Bulls coach.

I hated him as much as any other Bulls fan during the rivalry years, but that guy coaching this roster might be crazy enough to work.

Okay I'm kind of warming up to a college coach. To my surprise.

Our young core is still very young. I think for the next two years (give or take) it's very important to develop the young four, and I think a college coach, just on average, in my opinion, is more likely to do that.

That's what we need next, and if the coach grows into it, and has success, like Skiles, he should be able to stay until it's broken.

Not to be negative on any choices, but, I think a very tiny percentage of candidates actually have what the Bulls, in my view, need for the next year or so.

If they were ready to win, now, and had a two-three year window, I would love the Brown/Carlisle/VanGundy choices but I think for this team's roster and needs, they would be terribly expensive mistakes.
