I believe the Bulls will be quiet until the 11th on this to avoid Houston increasing their offer? I think they need to be quiet in general moving forward about resigning their guys. Everytime Gar says that he'll match whatever offer, teams offer a bloated deal. He needs to just say, "We haven't made a decision on Asik, we will evaluate that in the summer".

What didn't work? Who were they supposed to trade for? For a start, this was a completely different situation than 2014 will be. Howard didn't want to come to the Bulls, and there were no other all-stars that were a good fit for Chicago, and the team had a no. 1 record and was gelling, so there was no desire to move anybody. And yes, the Bobcats pick will be worth much more in 2014 if Charlotte continues to tank and it's looking like 2016 will be unprotected. Right now it's a distant star in the galaxy.

I just gave you 2 examples in recent history where mere expirings basically got all-stars. But I can guarantee that every year, there is atleast 1 new disgruntled all-star willing to be traded. And every time a trade happens, it involves a big expiring contract. Like Chris Kaman. No one cares about how much he sucks, they're just looking at the big expiring $ ZERO. If Kaman wasn't going to Hornets, it wouldn't matter if Eric Gordon was there, Stern was gonna veto it, because NOH needed cap relief.

That work out tremendously with Korver, Watson and Brewer. Our great ''assets'' will be shipped out in 10 days after turning them into nothing.

The 2014 Free Agency Class I see being 2010 All Over Again. None of those guys have ever said they want to come play here and most of them will be in their 30s by now.

The 2015 Free Agency Class is the class we should target. Boozer and Asik expire by then.

And now that Miami has won a title, don't see them breaking that up and opting out. Even if the get close and fail, they will keep trying like the Celtics Big Three has done after 08.

In Year 3 of Asik deal, Bulls have Rose ($18.9M), Boozer ($16.8M) and Noah ($12.2M) on books. And Chicago has historically avoided tax.

I doubt Boozer and Noah will be both on the books Year 3. Boozer will be a $16.8M expiring deal. Can either trade or amnesty him.

Year 1- $5 million

Year 3- $12.9 million

That doesn't match up. The value of the contract is $25.1. The value listed right there is 23.1.

Hollinger just said something like...

"By my reading, the most they can pay is the $23.1"

and it breaks down like that with 12.9 being the last year" based on his interpretation of the rules of the CBA

Not that it wasn't already a lock Booz was getting amnestied but if Bulls match Omer $ it may speed up process more. CB never sniffs year 5

This is the second beat writer to openly say this. Boozer is getting amnestied.

I don't see how we replace asik with anything on the market. Butler and Watson are gone but you can't teach size. And u can't teach big men to be coordinated.

I trust Larry Coon, and he had no issue with the 15m number.

I am in your boat. I know that 3rd year money is crazy. But, I am sure the Bulls FO kind of knew this last month that Asik will get this kind of money from some team especially when they had talked to Houston last trade deadline about Asik.
They made the statement of matching him by probably knowing something like this would happen. If they thought that Asik would get 4 yr/20 mil deal and match-it, that would be naive.

strong point. They knew what was coming. Or should have known. If so, I think this team is going to be changed a bunch in the next year or 2. Deng and Noah will be traded, team gets remade in some fashion. If not, and Asik and the bench mob is dissolved, the Bulls just became pretty much a much weaker team. Fighting for lower playoffs seeds year after year.

Also, doesn't the new CBA provide a provision of almost something like a 3 mil $ difference in trades. So basically, the Bulls have to pay 3 mil cash and get a 12 mil contract in the worst case. As a fan, as long the Bulls are not losing their MLE for repeat tax penalties, it is worth to match it plus not having the 4th year helps too.

3 year deal is workable, especially if the Bulls can manage to replace Deng and Noah with cheaper players. And yes, the Bulls may never be as good without them. Just have to accept it. Dwight Howard or bust.

Exactly.

The Kevin Love, Eric Gordon, Danilo Gallinari, Nicolas Batum, Serge Ibaka, Brook Lopez, Roy Hibbert Free Agency Class is who we need to Target and Asik and Boozer will be expired by then.

The Bulls can not match this and for many reasons Red has said already. It totally straps us down the road. Also the reason why Houston would work a S&T with us is so they themselves won't have pay him that 15 mil in year three. They make this large offer to Asik so the Bulls can't match and the Bulls and Houston will now try to come with a common ground to find a S&T before Asik signs the deal on July 11th.

The Bulls now should be able to keep Korver and I think offer the MLE or MMLE still or just keep Watson.

Last year was the time to consolidate assets. Now we're once again seeing what happens when you hold on to those assets for too long. My feeling is that we'll still match, but I think it will lead to future complications. You just can't have that much money tied up in two players at the same position who combine to average 13 pts per game.

I believe the Bulls will match this deal. Bulls will have to pay for this team if they truly believe that it can contend. The great thing is that their financial decisions this offseason will determine whether they really believe what they say.

I think I'd let him walk, and I'd take a chance on Hasheem Thabeet.

Thabeet came into the NBA very raw. Everyone knew this, yet he has never really been given a good chance to develop. Thabeet could really develop defensively under Thibs.

Isn't there some restriction though on what we are able to offer initially? What we can offer initially sets the S&T possibilities

How are fans ok with this deal?

If I was Chicago, I would try and do a Korver/Asik for Martin deal and give Omer a different deal. I think they've agreed to a 3/25 deal, but would they agree to say 4/33 (significantly less punitive to Houston, Omer gets more guaranteed money) and do a S&T? I'm not sure if a trade can still be negotiated (I know you can't once an offer is signed, don't know if an agreement during the moratorium counts to that).
