Denver never really bottomed out. AK has had success without getting multiple top 3 picks, the highest they drafted was #7.
The two execs may want to go different directions. Presti may want OKC to go down in wins, AK probably wants Chicago to go up in wins.
Well, OKC really positioned itself more like BOS after the Garnett/Pierce trade. They've got all these picks, and they lucked out with a better reg. season run than anticipated, but with CP3 and Gallo being past their primes, it makes no sense resigning Gallo and running that team back. I see why they're resetting hard. Plus GSW is coming back next year, and I
think PHX is finally going to stop making me eat my opening-week words. Suns should finally be in the late-seed mix. POR will get some healthy bodies back. NOP and MEM are young, talented and hungry. Kings and Wolves were supposed to be good but I guess they continue their 15 year rebuilds - still talented. I guess SAS and OKC are the token tank teams to throw in the towel, and even they will have some talent. Coupled with their small-market, a full-scale tank makes sense in OKC.
I don't want to call Chicago a FA destination, but with a complete set of high-profile suits for the first time in forever, and just entirely too many young players on this team, I don't think it's crazy to look at a short-term goal of getting this team to improve internally, maybe doing a 2 steps forward, 3 steps back, and a great leap kind of a concept like Miami and Toronto.
