Yes, unless there's some org out there willing to spunk star money on him. That's the risk you take with that approach, you may lose him for nothing.
Yeah, that's the debate. Would people prefer to?
1) Trade Coby for a (unprotected, but unlikely lottery) 1st and expirings
2) Wait and there's what I'll call a 50/50 chance of signing him for 4/$80 or losing him for nothing
The big unknown which impacts both is how much it would cost to find an equivalent player in FA? Or better yet a better (fitting) player?
Somewhat either way, we're still a team without a true (contending level) #1 option, and not addressing that first is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. And that leads me toward #1, because, if not at the deadline, then sometime in the next season, one of those guys will become available and we'll need as many assets as possible to get him.
