I'm not sure how much of Salmon's final year is guaranteed, but if it's none or close to none then Salmons + #5 for Deng crushes the GS offer. I'd think there's a pretty good shot that Sacramento would do that.

The GS trade only makes sense if there's another team ready to absorb Biedrins contract for less salary [which is certainly possible, his contract isn't that bad for his production, and it has only two years left].

Bulls have a better chance at winning with younger athletic core, then a failed model that has resulted in getting Rose hurt, and putting an inefficient offensive team on the court that has no clear number 2 player!

Not to state the obvious in too stupid of a way, but the Bulls have a better chance to win with better players. Swapping Deng for a pick only works out if the pick/cap room yield better players than the ones they lose. Making this trade [or some other trade] doesn't necessarily solve the problem you are concerned with. It might not solve the problem and then also reduce the Bulls assets.

At the same time, delaying a trade they could watch Luol Deng's value decline or have him walk away for nothing [or much less] later on. In those scenarios, the Bulls would also have far less then they do now.

No matter what they do, I think the Bulls are probably not going to figure out a way to win the title in the short term. I think the odds are stacked against them too highly. I think trading Deng for a high lottery pick is a way of attempting to rebuild long term value for short term value that's likely going to leave. The biggest question will be whether or not it's the best way to build long term value for the franchise.

I think the Bulls best shot to win is 2014-2017, so I'd aim to build my value there.

Whether you want to believe he will be back better then ever so soon after such an injury is certainly a hope. Not sure if it's a reality though. But again, I don't want to get into tangents about the current makeup of the roster. I've been saying some of these things since last season.

I didn't start the hope thing.

You have to give to get something.

The money the Bulls free up can be used to resign Asik and Gibson and possibly get a FA in 2014.

The draft player has a chance to contribute right away and learn from Thibbs.

Poor guy.

Well, at least Boozer doesn't believe it. He is perfectly aware how horrible is he.

I edited my post to put in more defined thoughts. I somewhat agree with both you and Coldfish. I think the answer here is that the Bulls are likely screwed either way.

Deng has been mentioned in many trades before and never has he talked in this tone. I believe Gar/Pax has informed Deng that they will trade him out of respect. KICK ROCKS, YOU BUM...

Following his decision to play for Great Britain despite a wrist tendon injury, the Bulls General Manager Gar Forman, who called Deng in from holiday for a meeting earlier this month, is understood to have offered the Warriors Deng and the 29th pick in the NBA draft on Thursday for centre Andris Bierdrins, small forward Dorrell Wright and the seventh pick in the draft.

Not sure if this was posted yet or if it has legs.

This seems to imply that Forman called Deng to inform him of the offer.

That's ridiculous

Actually, GM's let players know of deals they're potentially involved in all the time. The Bulls told Hinrich once of the teams calling about him and the chances he'd be dealt to either.

I think it is more that the meeting was about the Olympics and his injury/surgery rather than the trade.

The deal would save the Bulls approximately $3.5 mill, maybe it would be more if they decided to let Asik walk, but I don't think getting Biedrins would justify getting rid of Asik. If Biedrins got moved to another team, it would save us $18 mill. In that scenario, I would definitely do Deng and the 29 for Wright and the number 7, ship Biedrins to a 3rd team (although, who the hell would want him?).

Deng would be awesome for the Warriors, but it's interesting that they traded for Bogut when he was out for the season and might trade for Deng when he's out for about 2 months of the season.
