I don't get what the big deal is. This is even better than what we expected.

We all expected 5/5/10/11, he's offered 5/5/13. Basically one year less of headache and anxiety.

Yeah, Asik is not worth that money. Tell us something we don't know. But it'd be a strategically sound decision to keep him. And it'd be ONE year where he's not worth that money. Is Kris Humphries worth $9M? Or Nick Collison $12M? God no. But their teams worked out deals where they made that money for 1-year. And they are good chips to use. Lots of flexibility for a team looking to contend. Now Humphries can be signed-and-traded in a blockbuster trade if need be, for another bloated 1-year contract.

Doesn't exactly take sources to know that. It's the elephant in the room at this point.

But again, what KC, Nick and all these other beat writers aren't telling you is that with Rose, Noah, Asik, Teague, Butler and a re-signed Taj Gibson, the Bulls are going to be at $56-57M in salary, and won't have the room to fix their offense. You are going to have one of the most imbalanced rosters in the league and Rose will have zero offensive help.

The Bulls are reserving a seat in basketball hell if they match this contract. You do not bend your franchise over for a stiff backup center.

Thabeet came into the NBA very raw. Everyone knew this, yet he has never really been given a good chance to develop. Thabeet could really develop defensively under Thibs.

I like this idea but I'm sure many other teams are thinking the same thing. We can offer Thabeet a 4/$12M and not sure that will be enough.

they already offered the deal to Asik. The best the Bulls can do is convince him not to sign it for some odd reason. Omer has the right to sign the offer and nobody can stop him.

This is the second beat writer to openly say this. Boozer is getting amnestied.

I do not think Boozer will get amnesty this season, I doubt he'll get amnesty this season, nor any teams want to trade for the guy even if they match Asik offer my guess is if the Bulls do match Asik offer they will probably first shop Carlos Boozer behind the scene to see who is willing to trade Boozer.

If no one then possible next off-season they might amnesty him.

The 2014 Free Agency Class I see being 2010 All Over Again. None of those guys have ever said they want to come play here and most of them will be in their 30s by now.

The 2015 Free Agency Class is the class we should target. Boozer and Asik expire by then.

Im pretty sure James Harden will be unrestricted in 2014.

Harden will be extended by then. He'll be a Free Agent in 2017 or 2018 maybe.

There are no options in 2014 for us.

Hollinger and Larry Coon just confirmed year 3 of Asik deal can be a maximum of $14.1 million.

Still its time for the Bulls to work out a sign and trade with Houston.

Asik + Brewer or Korver to Houston for Kevin Martin.

I wonder if we can sign and trade him for lamb. That pick was a real head scratcher pick to me at the time, but maybe makes more sense if we can get him for omer which would be a bargin and a solid swap. Now if you recall we got offered omer for lee for sometime and always declined I wonder if they might now use lamb as the sacrificial lamb ha get it. Anyway not sure if its possible, but otherwise I say let him go. And we should go after either anthony randolph or mike beasley instead with the cap spaced opened. Use noah, boozer and taj at the 5 and we have extra length at the 4 or scoring with either randoplth or beasley. Just again my 2 cent, can't wait to see what happens and hopefully the bulls do the smart thing.

Larry Coon ‏@LarryCoon

As @johnhollinger figured out and I confirmed by double-checking the CBA, Year 3 of Asik deal can't be more than $14,085,191 unless max

Why are people advocating keeping Omer saying that we can just move Noah? That means we're trading Noah for just expiring contracts now? So now we keep one bad deal to make another bad deal? Solely to keep an inferior player? Who at the time would be making more money than be an unrestricted free agent in a market that has clearly decided that centers will be overpaid? How is this a good thing? How is keeping Omer Asik smart? I don't see a way the Bulls keep him and not pay massive tax amounts (like LA Lakers high) or they lose better players down the road.

It's either you S&T or we match. The time to let Asik walk for nothing ended when Gar made the decision to not trade him and match any reasonable offer for Asik. This offer is bad 1 year and that sounds reasonable to me.

forget about Camby he narrowed choices to Celtics, Spurs, Knicks, Mavs, and Heat.

Anyone know the center free agency pool this year? IF the Bulls let Asik go.

Year 1- $5 million
Year 2- $5.2 million
Year 3- $12.9 million

That doesn't match up. The value of the contract is $25.1. The value listed right there is 23.1.

Hollinger just said something like...

"By my reading, the most they can pay is the $23.1"

and it breaks down like that with 12.9 being the last year" based on his interpretation of the rules of the CBA

I believe Larry Coon has said that 15 mil in year 3 can be done per CBA

I'm right there with you Red. I'm all for moving on. Don't match this, don't sign Kirk and start looking for some underachievers (Mayo and Rush) and players who won't demand large contracts (Patty Mills) and reload the bench.

Homo made a good point on Thabeet too. He could be a nice addition under Thibs and he can actually catch.

What didn't work? Who were they supposed to trade for? For a start, this was a completely different situation than 2014 will be. Howard didn't want to come to the Bulls, and there were no other all-stars that were a good fit for Chicago, and the team had a no. 1 record and was gelling, so there was no desire to move anybody. And yes, the Bobcats pick will be worth much more in 2014 if Charlotte continues to tank and it's looking like 2016 will be unprotected. Right now it's a distant star in the galaxy.

I just gave you 2 examples in recent history where mere expirings basically got all-stars. But I can guarantee that every year, there is atleast 1 new disgruntled all-star willing to be traded. And every time a trade happens, it involves a big expiring contract. Like Chris Kaman. No one cares about how much he sucks, they're just looking at the big expiring $ ZERO. If Kaman wasn't going to Hornets, it wouldn't matter if Eric Gordon was there, Stern was gonna veto it, because NOH needed cap relief.

2 examples in how many years of people talking about expiring deals? And it's never just an expiring deal, you need to give more more often than not.

Which free agents do you imagine could become available and we can get without taking their trash? Also, don't forget about the BYC.
