Nope, Boozer amnesty does not all become cap space, much of it is sitting over the cap line.

To get up to 20 and beyond Taj has to go.

Arent Bulls at 63M? Minus Boozers 16M minus the rest puts Bulls somewere around 43M with the projected cap to beat $63?

Have a go at this tool. Kudos again to OldSchoolNewBull. You just have to add in McDermott's salary and also Anthony Randolph. And make sure to subtract the nonguaranteed contracts and the TPEs and MLE and BAE.

Dude, that is quite possibly the most delusional thing I have ever read posted here. I mean there have been, and continue to be some whoppers...but wow. To even suggest Taj would come to the meeting to listen to a scenario where he gets traded to god knows where, in order to bring in Melo, and be ok with it? Seriously dude?! Thats crosses the line from being team player and sacrificing, to being totally suicidal.
It is complete and total fantasy my friend. Stop it. If Taj is at the meeting the only logical conclusion is the FO gave him a promise he was not getting traded. Period. Imagine the fallout if Taj was asked to come to the meeting and then found out as a result of said meeting he was getting traded, and went to the media with his complaints. That would ruin the FO's rep.

The only logical conclusion here is the FO has done the math on what they can offer Melo, while keeping Taj, and are ok going forward with that number.

Agree to disagree. I said it was far-fetched. Just given how long the Melo-to-Bulls rumors have been swirling, I don't think it's completely unfathomable. You do. OK, fair enough.
Can I borrow a feeling?

Maybe a simple meeting to talk about not having any hard feelings could be a good thing. Melo is possibly leaving millions on the table, the least that should happen is that the Bull's alpha dog shows some sort of friendship. Good lord he recruited Hinrich but can't do the same to a person leaning towards Chicago already?

The players who are giving their all for the organization are recruiting. The one who has been 100% physically but not mentally ready once again isn't trying to help the organization out even though he could.

In reality, it doesn't take much throw a recruiting pitch to someone who could be your teammate for the next 3-5 years. All it says to me is that his free time is worth way more then any time on the court. He's talented but he doesn't want to put any extra effort to win, the worst thing for D.Rose's career wasn't his injuries(he can come back from those), it was the pile of money he got for being a brand which changed his whole outlook at basketball, it's no longer his life, it's just a job for him.

i get that, but he has small salary, so its not like we are getting much cap space, or something, if we have to give something worth while i would rather give Mirotic, i mean if its give Mirotic or no Melo, i would give him, if even can come to that! we need stoper like Jimmy if we get Melo!

Dude that is beyond far-fetched.

Whats far-fetched is Melo taking drastically/significantly less than his max to come here.

A player coming to a meeting offering his head on a platter to bring in another player to essentially replace him on the team!? That is is beyond reasonable. Not only from the point of view of the player i.e. Taj but also the FO. GarPax are not nearly Machiavellian enough to ask Taj to do that, let alone find leverage to induce him to do so. They have never shown such character traits before.

Rose OPENLY stated on ESPN some years back about how he wanted Melo on his team when he was in Denver.

I'm not mad at the dude for not wanting to put his heart out on his sleeve again.

He's grown, he shouldn't have to chase anyone. These players can talk on the phone any given time of the day or not.

He hasn't played in 2 years, and if his recent comments are any indication, he's probably better off NOT talking

Forman: "Well Melo. We got a great team assembled here in Chicago."

Noah: "Come on Melo. We got this!"

Taj: "Yeah, you're the last piece of the puzzle."

*Rose quietly looking out the window completely disinterested*

Rose: "Do you guys ever think about death?"

*Forman, Noah, Taj and Melo look at each other perplexed*

Rose: "Sometimes I wonder why I even bother trying to come back to play basketball. We're just specks of sand in a desert. Our contributions completely trivial and meaningless, at best. I mean, it's almost as if we play basketball to masquerade our own disappointments with reality settling in and we soon realize that our existence has no purpose."

*Melo pretends to look at his phone*

Melo: "Hey, well you look at that! I almost forgot about my flight to Texas."

Forman: "I thought it was tomorrow."

Melo: "Yeah...well....you know how airports are!"

*Melo runs off and re-ups with the Knicks*

SO what... it's just a few hours of his day to do recruit, hell, even a phone call to talk about a few things isn't tough to do.

For a person who wants to win a championship, he sure doesn't want to put any extra EASY effort in to try to accomplish that goal.

Holy **** Melo is proably going to give up MILLIONS to make a move to another team and Derrick can't give up a few hours. Do you have any idea how bad that should be? To give up millions, to make a 3-4 year commitment to a team yet the top player can't make any time to talk to you? That's really screwed up. Something THIS SIMPLE and yet he won't do it... then again he was 100% physically ready to go 2 post seasons ago and had no problem watching his sick and injured team pour their hearts out on the court to try to win.

I feel less confident about our chances of acquiring Melo and I think he'll stay in NY.

I don't think he'll take the pay cut to come here. I just don't see it.

This has nothing to do with what people are saying. If Rose is really about winning as much as he says he is, he should drop the shyness and gummy bears for a few minutes and meet with a player who can help him win more. That's the bottom line: Rose meeting with Melo = increased chance of Melo signing = increased chance of the Bulls winning. Its flabbergasting that people, including Rose himself, don't see that.

We're either getting Melo at our price - or we're not getting him at all. Maybe we have a S&T setup already - but whatever the terms they are coming at Chicago's price.

Lol. I haven't heard anything to this effect and we heard at least one report that the Bulls had not spoke to Phil about S&T.

That strikes me as odd. I generally agree with you that by them making it known that they won't trade Taj they are weakening their position. Either they are foolish or they have some bit of information that we do not.

You're absolutely right, and we know Taj and Noah are recruiting but known nothing about Rose. That's a great secret to keep, smart!

I do know he likes to watch his teammates in pain on the court while he sits back and watches.

That price (assuming NY refuses to trade) is too low. Unless there is some new calculation I am unaware of right now we dont come close to a respectable offer for Melo unless we deal Taj to a third party for cap space.
