NYK’s Nerlens Noel for TBJ works straight up in trade checker.

Thibs does love him some Taj, and perhaps the NY brass wants to clear the way for more Toppin minutes?

Gets them a guy who has shown a willingness to defend, hustle, and handle the ball some that I think would play nicely w/Thibs world view.

IMO, NY would rather trade MRob than Noel. MRob is just not that good, but has more trade value. Noel was much better last season than MRob is this season, but he hasn't been healthy.

Fine. They can have Dotson too.

The math to figure out is how to get something useful in a NY/POR trade for Dame. NY has the assets, Dame wants to go there.

I wouldn’t trade w/NY if I were Portland. Their assets are overrated. Starting with Barrett. Unless they’re giving basically all their picks.

Now if I’m NY, I would’ve traded Barrett during the offseason with that team success and that 3rd pick, top hs recruit shine on him.

This is a great opportunity for Portland to take whatever long timeline action they need to heal Dame, and optimize lottery odds in the process.

Here's my opinion on making trades.

I'd rather trade for someone like Covington(example), than use our best remaining assets for players such as Grant/Barnes just to play the role of a Covington. A role they possibly won't like, which creates issues.

The sentiment from people like Zach Lowe is that PWill + filler will land you Grant, so it would only be 1 asset really. The problem with guys like Covington is they are so limited offensively. Defenses have to take Grant seriously, unlike RoCo. The more offensive threats, the merrier IMO.

nomorezorro wrote:i love simmons but he makes no sense for this team offensively. don't need to add a guy who needs the ball in his hands when you've got zach/demar (not to mention lonzo; don't need a guy who mucks up spacing when so much of our offense is built around demar killing teams in the midrange

IMO he doesn't have to make big things offensively. Our offense from the starting lineup has the big3 and Lonzo from 3pt land (and Lonzo has also great passing high bbiq, wich helps offense too). It's enough, offense will take care.
Ben Simmons as our starting PF on offense would have to cut to the basket and make buckets from close range, on fastbreaks, get offensive rebounds, make good passes/assits, which he could do. Vuc is a good shooter from range at C, it helps him too.

On the other hand, on defense he would make the most sense. Traps, rebounding, athlecism, a player we could put on Durant, Giannis or every hot scorer 1 to 4.
Only question is would he accept that role? Who knows? Maybe - just speculation - he would love that wouldn't have to deal mentally with the pressure doing things he can't do (scoring every game, making 3s, etc).

IMO he has the tools (except his head? :D ) to became a Rodman/Pippen hybrid type defensive force, a top3 DPOTY candidate every year. Very valuable.

Worth thinking about, he fits our players timeline too.
Time has come...

I liked the idea of Simmons early on-trading DDR and something for him
Now, his salary is too big-we would have to trade DJJ/PWill/Coby and TBrown for him-which takes us to the lux tax and hurts our depth. It could work-he would be the defensive answer we need and could be effective on offense, playing off the other guys-but it's too many players/too much $

IMHO I just don’t see Ben Simmons as a possibility. Morley is probably non-starter without offering something likely in the range of like DDR+Lavine+Portland 1st for Simmons and filler. It’s stupid. He’s stupid.

Secondly, I personally view Simmons as a greater disruption and locker room cancer than I did bringing in a guy like Cousins. I mean Cousins seems to at least respect and value his teammates outside of silly technicals. Not a good look with Simmons constantly screaming at his Sixers teammates to stay the **** away from him.

Too slow/bad in general for our defensive scheme and his contract is basically impossible to match in a way that makes sense for the Bulls.

PWill + DJJ + TBJ for Grant + Lyles is identical from a salary perspective.

Simmons is one of the best Durant/Giannis defenders in the NBA, but it would be tough helping Philly get better. Maybe a three way trade with Detroit where Grant goes to Philly, Simmons to Chicago, & Williams/Coby to Detroit.

Anyone catch Lance Stephenson’s return? He looks to have matured and has some toughness this team lacks. AKME should aggressively pursue him before it’s too late. He would give the Bulls more flexibility if they flipped DJJ for someone with more size.

I was a big fan of Jalen Johnson. Was shocked when he fell.

If that was the price for Bol Bol I'm surprised AKME wasn't willing to pay it considering Arturas originally drafted him.

Bol Bol always seemed like a complete boom or bust type guy. Maybe AK didn't like what he saw in Denver.
