Not true. Nash gets stretched and they can offer Pau market value. Then from there they can pay Young the room exception. Then can bring back Farmar and Henry on the minimum with the promise of early bird rights and in Jordan's case starting. Then they can offer Blake! Caron, and a vet big (JO) all of whom they've talked to the minimum. Clarkson will be retained for a year or d league seasoning. Kelly already has a QO

Kobe and Melo
Randle at 120%
Pau at 8mil
Swaggy at the room exception
Farmar and Henry returned with early bird rights ala jr smith the next summer
Ryan Kelly QO, Sacre, and Marshall
Cheap vet like Steve Blake and Jermaine ONeal

Its silly to think that they haven't put in the due diligence, but you would if you only watched sportscenter and list ended to Broussard over knowing they've contacted other minor guys and would assemble something like

Farmar/Blake/Marshall
Kobe/Young
Melo/Henry
Randle/Kelly
Pau/JO/Sacre

Clarkson - Dfenders

That's what they've looked at. It's always even acknowledged that they were t retaining Bazemore, Brooks, Wes, or Kaman ... They've maintained contact with hill as well but it's already been detailed they would need. Young to take one for the team and sacrifice a year for his early bird rights as well if hill went for the room

You really think with all the crazy deals being signed by third tier guys that Young is going to sign for the RMLE?

I have a feeling Stephen A. will be the first one to officially tweet where Carmelo is headed.

That is not a contender.

They are able to compete. And it's better to bank on Kobe than Rose or Amare health wise. He would be relevant unlike chucking a year away in ny. Then he would have free agency money in 2 summers when KD is free, he is just 32, and has seen Randle develop. And unlike Chicago, the lakers will pay the tax over cutting quarters or running players into the ground like Thibs has done. He still gets all his cash too since he would have chose to come there and a year E&C opt out would see him re upped and token care of like Kobe, Magic, and Worthy were with the buss fam. Don't sleep on it

Coming back from an achilles injury at age 35-36 is unheard of. Kobe isn't going to be in the NBA much longer as it is.

Also on the "why would Melo sign with the Lakers?" front, here's what a reddit user had to say:
We could put together a pretty good lineup right now that could compete in the West. It wouldn't win a championship but would certainly get further than the Knicks.

Chicago offers the better immediate option, but they won't have the flexibility in 2015 and 2016 that the Lakers provide. If Melo signs in Chicago he's pretty much stuck with that team more or less. So if they somehow can't win a championship with the roster as presently constructed their hands are tied. If the near-term lineup Lakers put together with Melo + Kobe can't win a championship (likely won't) then in 2016 we have the cap space to sign Durant AND Noah (or another star) to pair with Melo and Randle.

Payt10 wrote:I'm sorry, but if Carmelo goes to the Lakers without Lebron (which I don't think is actually possible, right?) the meeting with the Bulls must have went seriously wrong. That Laker's squad with Carmelo, Pau, and Kobe is a fringe playoff team at best next year in the Western Conference.

Depends on what they think of Randle being Melo and Bron.

If they don't value him and la was able to sell Nash off to a team using Randle, they free up over 34mil, Melo and Bron could both get over 17 per year.

With a stretched Nash, they would get around a little over 14mil per.

With Nash traded using second round picks and the 1.5mil they have in cash, they would have over 31mil in cap space making it viable for a 15/16 split between them.

Bron gets a raise in ny or la from Nike anyhow of 10mil as was discussed already, and TWC was there our thing to Melo as well so its fair to say LaLa would get some bank for a show which isn't illegal since unlike Dolan/msg, TWC doesn't own any laker stock

So Kobe coming off a ruptured Achilles and a knee fracture, who will turn 36 years old before the season, is less of a health risk than Rose? That's absurd.

Everything else is just "we'll be good in 2-3 years when hopefully we can lure guys who may not even be free agents."

Who's going to be the coach? What systems is he going to run?
Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

So what's the most recent thing Ralph said?
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

rose hasn't played in. 2 years, thinking he will suddenly be himself isn't acceptable either. And he wasted 4 years of his life on Amare already. They all are gambles, just Kobe's the toughest and most durable of the three historically

Whoever is doubting Ralph needs to stop it. Ralph has reported a lot of things including the signing of Nate Robinson a few days before it actually happen.
