I wondered if there's a trade in place for a veteran. Specifically, CP3. It wouldn't be shocking if this were the first in a series of moves.

A more mature player like Deni or Toppin might makes sense given Donovan, as you say.

Cp3 strips us down quickly having to move that much salary. But I like the idea of shaking things up with anyone.

I remember when Mayberry reported that JR asked Boylen to be CEO.

I like Darnell but I seriously think the media have no clue as to what AK is doing.

Aside from the main issue of "is Donovan a really good coach," these are the things I find surprising and encouraging:

1) Despite internal support from the holdovers/ownership, AK was able to fire Boylen.

2) There was one big, splashy name on the market, and the Bulls went out and got him.

3) Donovan will obviously be much more expensive than the candidates who were assistants, and Reinsdorf somehow gave it the green light even when he had an easy excuse to cheap out with COVID-19-related uncertainty & decreased revenue.

4) AK did not just hire someone he was familiar with in his prior work history, despite good candidates in that vein existed - there's no more "let's just hire the guy from Iowa State" mentality here.

I'm honestly pretty surprised and encouraged.

You guys know I've been pining for an experienced HC. I am so excited! I know folks wanted some high potential asst., but I am a big believer that the learning curve for a new HC is 2 seasons. I did not want to wait for that. This dude comes in with the sort of credibility to get more out of Zach, WCj and Lauri right of the box.

This is the 2nd best thing to happen this year! (After Doug restarting his podcast).

LOVE the hire! Great step in the right direction.

I'm not loving all the talk and enthusiasm of trading for Chris Paul now that we have Donovan.

Shouldn't we be shooting higher then that?? Even if it's for Sato and Otto. Do we really want to take on his salary?

Were basically saying we have no chance at AD or Giannis. And tying up all that salary in Paul for two years.

The Bulls should shoot big now, Try to get AD this summer! Get creative with no cap space like the Heat did last summer with Butler. pitch AD on coming home. If that doesn't work, try for Giannis the following year.

Try to build a championship. Not trade for an older Chris Paul and become a 5th seed. And we fade back into being a second round team again.

HomoSapien wrote:I suggested it in a different thread, but I said I was open to trading for Chris Paul (something like Felicio, Young, Sato, and a heavily protected future 1st) to help jump-start our rebuild. I'm even more open to that now.

i dunno how much adding a 35-year-old guard who's gonna make $41 and $44 million the next two years "jump-starts a rebuild" lol

chris paul is still good (if he can stay healthy). and i get the appeal of adding a legit point guard to have a better sense of how good our other guys are, and of pushing for the playoffs to make our team more appealing to outsiders. but. we are absolutely not in a position where we should be giving more than 1/3rd of the cap to a 35 year old. what's the next move after that?

3 is why Reinsdorf gets more credit for this hire. He was willing to pay extra to bring in a top coach. Either that or he found a way to get Donavan on a COVID discount deal lol. I’m sure AK talked to him too but without Reinsdorf willing to pay this wouldn’t have happened.

So, ummmm, Donovan chews gum continuously?

I've never seen that in a grown man. Surprised it doesn't bother me more lol.
