I think PWill will need to find a vet like Thad or Zach (or Jimmy Butler!) to learn what the good vets do to get better in the offseason.

maybe, but whatever he did between his last game at FSU and his first game in Chicago worked. He transformed his body and parts of his game. His handle wasn't nearly this good at FSU.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

I'm not so sure about that, given that Stacy King is always touting his PG experience in HS. But I do agree that he has a nice set of tools, and he needs to learn how to train like a vet and develop vet moves. I remember Jimmy transformed his game by studying Kobe and Michael tape.

I'm old enough to remember when people in this thread were comparing PWill to Tony Snell.

I can see a Paul George development out of PW. Will take a few years to bring it out of him, but he has a frame that is ready now. Strong, athletic. Just needs the ball handling, shooting, passing to catch up -and then it’s over for you bitches

He is more Kawahi than George. He can be better than George.

Damn! That play that starts around the 1:08 mark, with Thad to PW, Williams uses a quick between the legs crossover in the lane to go around Okeke and score. That was just ridiculous! Looks like pretty damn good ball-handling skills for a forward to me!

Yup. Very impressive. In traffic and functional. Very good strength for his age and absorb/delivers contact well while handling and getting to the rim.

Let's not go crazy now, I'm high on Williams but PG was 5th in MVP voting and has put up insane numbers while leading a team against the Heat. If he's even half as good as PG, I'll be ecstatic

Agreed.

I liked the pick, I like what I've seen so far, and I'm optimistic about what he can become. But Leonard/George projections at this stage are just whacky.

Patrick looks much more natural playing 4 on D. Man-on-man D he's not there yet, but he's probably the best help defender on the entire team... as a rook, which is kinda' sad. If he tightens that handle a bit more and works on the quickness of his release, and puts on just a bit of core and upper body weight (which will probably happen with time, given his frame), he'll be a real terror as a small ball 4.

Which then tells me the Bulls really need to hire a big man coach and lock him in a room with Lauri to teach him how to rotate and contest on D. I'm talking straight-up brainwashing--Lauri should be waking up in the middle of the night in cold sweat thinking about rotations. Then, since Otto is broken down, go find another 6'7-6'8 player similar to Pat Williams to play the 3, or even a smaller guy like THT that has insane length & girth and is a good driver.

Next year

PG: Somebody who can dribble (?) / Sato / Coby
SG: Zach / Coby
SF: THT / (?) Draft pick / Random 3&D vet
PF: Pat Williams / Thad
C: Lauri / WCJ / Whomever

You need Lauri at the 5 so that everybody else can drive at will. Man, that would be a fun lineup to watch if Lauri mans up and can pull it off.

Well, the no-brainer for PW would be to bug Lebron and Kawhi, train with them this off-season. By the time he's UFA eligible to sign in LA, those two will be retired ... so... it's a win-win. :)

But I agree with chefo; I like him at PF. He does not look comfortable dribbling against smaller/peskier defenders, and even on defense, he's got very active feet, but very long strides. Defending the 3P line closely is not his forte; these days, the ball handler always has the advantage, and it seems to be a waste of his size and talent having him guard the ball. He appeals much more rotating around the paint.

Patrick is one of the first less obvious player we had since Jimmy that has a good number of tools to build off of. It's nice to see that he has a floater as part of his repertoire. Once he builds more confidence where he doesn't have to hesitate in deciding to shoot or pass, he should be more consistent.

Pat is only .7 rebounds away from matching kawhi's rookie season, and has more than what paul george obtained as a rook.

I remember it like it was yesterday when people said he had a low motor and was doomed as a player.

Keep growing Pat.

I remembered that post showing Coby was ahead of D Rose’s 2nd year numbers. Can’t wait for Coby’s MVP next year
