Mirotic is an unknown quality. Sure, he looks great in the Euroleague, but so does Nenad Krstic and Rudy Fernandez and how much of an impact did they have in the NBA? Love is a proven commodity. If you can make a better offer than the Warriors or Lakers (I'm not even gonna mention the Knicks because they can't), then do it.

Re: Love wants wants LA or NY (update pg 5, Chicago or GS to
Getting both guys would be hard. But wouldn't a trade for love actually increase our chances of getting Melo in terms of his wish list of places to play? Not only would our team be deadly, but we also would have taken one of the Knicks options for 2015 off the market, which would make it harder for them to make a contender asap. So, in one swoop we'd make our team look extremely better, while diminishing the knicks chances of getting another star to play with (since I'm sure Love is probably their #1 target at this point)
The problem would be, how to make the money work....but if the bulls still have Boozer and Mike D, some of those contracts we signed at the end of the season, and a couple of future picks remaining, how could Melo not strongly consider us, or catapult us to the top of his list? Doesn't even matter who else will be on the team.....a lineup of Rose, Love, Melo and Noah would be fierce.

Luckily for us, Houston doesn't have a lot of tradeable pieces in a Kevin Love deal. The Twolves don't need Asik with Pekovic and Dieng as centers. Their draft picks are worth next to nothing unless they could involve a 3rd team.

Re: Love wants wants LA or NY (update pg 5, Chicago or GS to
Couldn't help fantasizing how we get Melo and Love together. This is what I came up with:
This all starts going down at about noon on Draft Day, before TPE’s expire.
Deal One: Carmelo
Boozer ($16.8m), Tony Snell ($1.5m), 2015 CLE swap, SAC pick, Bulls 2016 pick
for
Anthony ($16m in Year 1), Shumpert ($2.7m)
The players in this deal are hot garbage for the Knicks, which is why they get three picks. As has been discussed for months, this is contingent on Melo deciding that he is absolutely going to Chicago and nowhere else. We’d actually be lucky if they insist on dumping Shump to get THJ more PT. There’s about a $400,000 difference, but we’ll have room to absorb that with Deng’s TPE.
Deal Two: Kevin Love
Taj Gibson ($8m), Mike Dunleavy ($3m), UNGs ($4.07m according to a WT article), rights to Nikola Mirotic, #19, Bulls 2018 pick
for
Kevin Love ($15.7m)
Wanted to keep #16 so we still have a pick this summer. Minnesota gets 6th Man runner-up, top Euro prospect in the world right now, a good bench shooter on a good deal, and can cut the unguaranteeds. They’d also have picks 13 (projected) and 19 this year, and another pick when Taj expires. They flip their All-Star PF for two good, good PF’s and some picks. They wouldn’t laugh and hang up, that’s for sure. Deng's TPE is also used again to absorb an approximately $600,000 difference.
With a salary of $68 million ($5m over the projected cap), we’re left with:
Rose/
Butler/Shumpert
Melo/
Love/
Noah
I think if this is done before July 1, we’d have the MLE. My first calls are to Spencer Hawes and Jordan Hill, re-sign DJ, and draft Rodney Hood. We’re shelling out some serious money for the near future, but I dare someone to tell me this isn’t the winner we’ve been told we’d pay for.
Rose/DJ
Butler/Shumpert
Melo/Hood
Love/Hill
Noah/Hawes
Woooooo doggy! Feels good to sit down and really explore the possibilities for the offseason. We could do some things. AND HEY, have you guys looked at the free agents this summer? Regardless who we move and who we bring in, between the draft and the FA pool, it's gonna be a good season to have to creatively fill out a roster.
What do you guys think?

Hey, if they get Love, that takes them out of the Melo sweepstakes, right? At least there'd be that.

I hate to be a debbie downer but you are forgetting the mle can only be used if the team is within the "apron." Otherwise we only have the tax payers MLE..
Also... cap holds...

Apparently I have read the CBA wrong then... Am I misinterpreting this?
23. Other than financial penalties, are there restrictions on taxpaying teams?
In addition to the tax payments described in question number 21, taxpaying teams have the following restrictions. Note that most of these restrictions aren't triggered unless the team would be over the "apron" -- the point $4 million above the tax level -- following a signing or trade.
Teams above the apron cannot use the Bi-Annual exception (see question number 25).
Teams above the apron have a smaller Mid-Level exception (see question number 25). Teams above the apron can offer contracts no longer than three years, while other teams can offer four. The starting salary is also lower (for example, in 2011-12 it is $3 million for teams above the apron, versus $5 million for other teams).
Taxpaying teams can acquire less salary in a simultaneous trade (see question number 83).
Starting in 2013-14, teams cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade transaction (see question number 90) if their team salary is above the apron at the conclusion of the trade.
Teams above the apron do not have the same protections under the Gilbert Arenas provision (see question number 45). Under the Arenas provision other teams can offer restricted free agents salaries starting at the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception. If a team with the right of first refusal does not have Early Bird rights to the player and is over the apron, it will have only the smaller Taxpayer Mid-Level exception at its disposal, and cannot match an offer for the full Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception.
In addition, taxpaying teams do not receive a distribution from the leaguewide tax fund. However, they do receive a distribution from the escrow fund (see question number 22).

This is especially true given that, if we make a deal for Love, we will lose our ability to make a viable FA offer to Melo, and thus will lose leverage over the Knicks. So, here's my proposal:
Draft Night
Trade Boozer, Mirotic, 16, 19, and the Sacto pick for Love
After July 1
Trade Gibson for Asik
Trade Noah and 4M unguaranteed filler for Melo at 20.2M
Bulls end up with:
Rose
Butler, Snell
Melo, MDJ
Love
Asik, Smith
Plus the MLE and the BAE.
I honestly think that Minn, Houston and NY would make these deals. Anyone disagree?
Interesting but how do we make it work wit Asik's contract? I know hes only get paid like 8mil but doesnt that 15 still work against the cap?
Asik's cap cost is 8.3M, so he fits with Taj who is at 8M. Whoever has Asik next year has to pay him 15M.

One year rental with Uncle Drew I suppose. See if they click and make some noise in the East, similar to the Deng move. Trade Waiters and picks and something.

And we definitely want J.Butler in any deal with the Bulls.
Well your trade proposal is very Kahnlike, so the irony is crushing. Mirotic has repeatedly stated he won't play for many franchises, Minnesota would by typical of a franchise he won't play for. He has been very vocal about this, so if Minn is not a bunch of idiots, they won't trade for him. Mirotic can easily stay in europe, he has been offered a good extension with Real Madrid so he wouldn't be bound to an NBA deal he doesn't like. But apparently you think your franchise still has an idiot at the helm like Kahn.
I don't think Mirotic has any trade value unless we deal him to New York. He has said he would play in NY or LA. Otherwise we would have to find a way to keep him, which might mean him playing in spain for another few years.

Nice try, but TPE's can only be used to take in a player who fits within the TPE. But the good news is that you are being too hard on the Bulls in terms of salary matching - when the Bulls send out over $10M in salaries they can take back $5M more than they sent out. So, how about this:
Bulls trade Taj ($8M), $3M worth of the unguaranteeds, Mirotic, 19, 2018 pick for Love ($15.7M).
Bulls trade Boozer ($16.8M), 16, Sacto pick, 2016 for Melo ($21.8M).

Love is definitely the player I want if it's between him and Melo. The pick and pop with Rose would be fantastic. If we were to explore that option though I would definitely want them to go after a guard or wing, at least someone who can shoot or score.
I'm assuming Hayward will be matched by Utah. Afflalo is interesting as well, but are the Magic open to trading him? Also isn't Chandler Parson a free agent this summer? (I actually just checked and the Rockets have a team option though, which I'm assuming they'll take advantage of). Who else is possibly available?
