OK I was a bit harsh. But at some point, he needs to make a shot.

I wouldn't lump Canaan in with Portis. Remember we are talking about bench players who are usually inconsistent league wide, but at least Isiah contributes and is a threat out there even when his shot isn't falling and hustles on defense. Portis is just a train wreck and I get the hunch that we are force feeding him minutes to showcase him, but the more we play him the more it's backfiring and his stock continues to drop.

At some point if Portis isn't traded, I think he rides the bench for the rest of the season.

Canaan isn't much of a contributor at all. He's had 2-3 standout games off the bench for us this year, but otherwise he's been bad. He's barely shooting 40% from the field and 30% from 3 this year. He's suppose to be a specialist.

I agree but when the hell was he ever considered a specialist? Also his offense is not good but you can't ignore that he's pretty good on D. Always hustling and making it at least a challenge for his guy to score.

He was brought here to be a 3 point shooter. He didn't do much else in Philly besides shoot 3's.

Why has Gar/Pax not went and grabbed a C. You can't keep forcing hoiberg to play Bobby.

I'd do it but only contingent on Noel resigning with Bulls.

What? I don't like Bobby either but tonight, he is the only positive off the bench. Valentine had his moments too but the rest were nothing but poop.

Niko WTF
Cannan WTF

These 2 if they don't make shots, they are simply awful.

I get that but he's never been considered a specialist at least to my memory.

Bench is getting outplayed but with no Doug nor Carter Williams it is to be expected.

This is correct, but he was also brought in to be the third string guard. And as mentioned, at least he still contributes in other areas.

What does Portis bring exactly? Bad offense. Bad defense. Nothing. And he is our primary bench center for the past month which is just horrendous.

At least when things don't go well with Canaan, Fred can pull him, but with Portis, I'm not sure why he gets such a long string when Fred could easily put in Felicio instead and play whoever is playing well on any given night.

The bulls didn't "underestimate" the Lakers the **** bench came in and shat on everything. Has nothing to do with effort or being ready to play and everything to do with how **** the bench is right now.

Our starters were fine. It's the bench who are permanently rusty.

Maybe Phoenix will dump Tyson Chandler. Although I don't know what his contract looks like anymore.

I disagree about the abuse Portis is taking. The team sucked when he was in because Denzel went 0-2 with 2 fouls, Canaan was awful, Niko was garbage, and Bobby only got to play 2 minutes with Jimmy. Yes Bobby gave up 2 fouls (as did Denzel, remember) but 4 offensive rebounds and he was 1-2 shooting. Denzel, Canaan, and Niko were a combined 2-11.

You guys are riding this narrative too hard.

Bobby was the worst player off the bench tonight. That said Fred really doesn't have options at this point.

I'm not a huge advocate of using plus and minus, but the plus and minus of the starters and bench is quite telling and mirrors exactly what we are all seeing. Bobby being the biggest dud of them all.

Let's not pretend that Doug and MCW are some amazing players and will save the bench. The issue with the bench is Niko and Portis. They can't be expected to play the 4/5 together (especially Portis at the 5) and actually stop anybody. Portis at the 5 completely corrupted the defense and led to being in the penalty early.

Oh man, that would be perfect. I don't think Chandler would like coming off the bench much, though.
