I know it's against Nigeria...but Melo seems to adjust well playing without the ball with the Olympic team. Would he have done the same thing with Rose? Is it having teammates who are as or more talented than him which makes him do this?

i think it's the team setting.
on this team he'd be needed to create more, so melo would still be a catch and hold player.
there was a need for team usa to have multiple guys who can catch n shoot and melo stepped up.
i know these guys usually are required to do more, but i hope they recognize how much easier the game is when they can execute simple things like the catch n shoot.

A bit late but just wanted to add how enjoyable the last three games last night were. Russian Federation's buzzer-beater over Brazil, Great Britain's near-reeling in of Spain, and the USA's jump shooting exhibition against Nigeria.

In GB/Spain, those last few seconds of Calderon dribbling out the clock were down at my end. Maybe I was reading too much into it, but Luol's face sure looked conflicted, knowing that either decision (foul or avoid) was not real good. A shame about the technicals, the score might have played out differently but having to sit down Deng was big. By the way, one of the refs is an NBA official, and the players with NBA connections were yucking it up with him before (and even during) the game. I don't recall if he's the one who gave Luol the technical (I thought it was deserved), but he did call the one between the 3rd & 4th quarter. Did they say on television what that technical was for? I'm not sure they did in the arena.

Regarding USA-Nigeria, if you have ignorant friends (as I'm proud to say I do) that say there is no defense played in the NBA, use this game as an example of what happens when no defense is played at the elite level (assuming they've already forgotten the Paul Westphal Denver Nugget days.)

You know I hate to be mean but NBC is really not that damn bright at all...

There is a mistake on the link on August 2nd game the full replay the LTU/France game was link to the Aus/China game and if you click the LTU/France full replay game it takes you to the exact Aus/China full replay.

Now this is the part NBC is not really that bright. I try to contact them via web-site and you have to type the exact code from the image give you before you click send I type the exact code and yet it gives me the error I try again gives me a different code, and I type the exact code and it gives me the same error. So I pretty much cannot contact them not sure if anyone could get to contact, and if can't no one can't tell them to them to make a mistake. I did tweeted them but either didn't see my tweet, or they ignore it, and yes I wake up the wrong side of the bed today and decide to rant.

LTU doing a good Job thus far. Their Ball movement isn't that bad against a tough defense.

We're having trouble guarding that pick and roll.

Yup, this team is indeed better than the '92 Dream Team.

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

Great game. I wonder how we'll respond to Spain and/or Russia in the medal rounds.

People here who don't value Omer are probably the same group that didn't realize how vital PnR coverage was in that last game

LIT has a great combination of intelligence, physicality and shooting.
they execute very well, hit open shots, stuck with their game plan defensively and are physical with their picks and on the boards.
they have more in common with argentina than a team like spain because of their physicality. argentina gave the US more trouble than spain in the exhibitions, imo because of their physical play.

was it just me or was kobe awful? maybe it's because of his style of play, but offensively he takes so many stupid shots, he catches and holds too much on a team like this and he was repeatedly burnt on defense because of his dumb gambles.

also, coach k needs to flash lebron to the elbows more. opposing teams can goad him into 3's or force him to stall the offense 3 pt line extended since he takes a while to plot out his course of action, but at the elbow they cant play off of him. all he needs is to get one shoulder past his man and he's at the cup.

The team really doesn't have a place for Kobe in crunch time. He has one mode, and he's not the best at it anymore, or even 2nd on this team. He should probably just rest on the bench like Larry Bird did for much of the 92 team. Honorary position.

i'd still have him in at end game situations because he's fearless and can lock in in tight end game situations. look at the alternatives. westbrook? nah. deron hasnt looked very confident either.
during the meat of the game, i'd probably play kobe less, especially when he's in kobe mode and getting repeatedly shredded by guys like marty pocius.

I'd go to LeBron, Melo, or Durant (though preferably not iso with him) late before Kobe clearing out and pounding the ball to end up with a contested shot.

Since we are probably going to stay small, yeah Kobe could stay out there as the 2, but just don't like that if he touches the ball, it probably becomes his possession.
