I assume you guys heard about the gambling arrests, and anticipated additional gambling arrests?

Rozier and Billups so far, three more NBA names expected to be announced. Separate investigations, Rozier's is for sports gambling and Billups is for being part of a mafia poker game.

Just saw the Wemby highlights.

I don't think I have a comparison for an NBA game. It looked like something from the Harlem Globetrotters.

If I had no background knowledge of who everyone was I would have thought AD and Derick Lively were g-leaguers who just got called up to play in their first game.

Lively looked like Spud Webb trying to guard Durant.

The dunks and blocks looked like NBA Jam, and then he had the nerve to hit cross-over 3Ps and fadeaway jumpers with hands in his face (er chest). Nothing but net. Was a clinic.

They mentioned Damon Jones and Johantay Porter as well in the press conference.

Damon Jones is the third one arrested.

I didn't listen to the presser, but its my understanding Porter was mentioned because the Rozier part is an extension of the Porter investigation. Porter is already facing jail time.

Last year in 46 games he averaged 24/11/4/4 and was running away with DPOY. He was a top 10-20 player in the NBA last year.

yeah fair, i was thinking more top 20 convos his rookie year and top 10 convos last year.

obviously he was very good the entire time and trending toward being incredible, but his sophomore year his shot selection, strength and conditioning were still holding him back from having fully arrived at the top-tier superstar level that a lot of people were eager to put him on. and then the first game of year 3 he came out bullying a DPOY-level player and not settling for 3s and i dunno what flaws there are in his game if he can just do that all the time now

(to be fair to him/wemby boosters, i think he's also benefitting from the quality of the spurs team improving pretty significantly, which is not a factor he could control his first two years)

The hypocrisy of the NBA to investigate people for gambling when they're shoving gambling down everyone's throats every chance they get.

Today's stuff is the FBI, not the NBA. And what Billups is alleged to have been doing isn't gambling, as such. It's defrauding poker players.

Its not hypocrisy to support legal gambling while also supporting punishment for illegal gambling and fraud.

From the ESPN article, it certainly sounds like Billups was giving out info (and possibly throwing) NBA games.
A month later, a defendant referred to as "Co-Conspirator 8" allegedly told a bettor that the Trail Blazers would be tanking and that several of their best players would not be playing in a March 24, 2023, game against the Chicago Bulls. Four regular Portland starters did not play as the Trail Blazers lost by 28.

Co-Conspirator 8 was not named in the indictment but was described in a manner that matches Billups.

Well, if he was purposely losing this at least helps our odds at the pick.

I looked up Rozier's salary for this year and it's 26.6 million. For his career to date he's made 160 million and this doesn't include any endorsements.

I'll never understand why super rich people do stuff like this.

I think eventually, Billups will be kicked out of the HOF.

Just guessing on my part, but given all the mafia talk, I'm guessing that maybe these guys got indebted somehow (gambling, family ties, who knows) and then got coopted. It's crazy

My guess is that Silver had plenty of knowledge about these events, first-hand or otherwise, and it was just way more convenient to look the other way. I doubt he's getting blindsided by this news so much as experiencing the panic that comes when you know you've finally been caught doing something you were never supposed to do in the first place.

Pretty serious considering no hair! Jk, anyway, this is bound to happen - NBA is shady, imo such as Reffing (Tim D/Scott Foster, Clippers, Luke/Flagg, AD/Lakers, etc.)

OKC in the last game against pacers made 43FG. They made 45 FT. They made more free throws, during dead play, than actual baskets from live play...

It has come finally, where it makes more sense for team to make points by foul baiting and getting rewarded by refs with free throws than actual goal of basketball, making baskets from live play.

Plus they can shove betting props during non live play, even advertise it. Win win.... Right

Too bad about Billups. Certainly hurts the chances of their pick conveying this season.
