There are a lot of guys that get hyped up and then get exposed when they play stronger competition. Emoni Bates is another example. Any hope that people see in Hardy is based purely on his high school hype. I think he didn’t even play his senior year so basically it is based on high school competition that happened almost 3 years ago. If he didn’t have that hype based on his G League play he wouldn’t even be discussed at all. For the Bulls to take him at 18, 17 other teams would have to pass on him. I’m not even sure he is projected in the first round at this point. If the Bulls want him that bad then they can buy a second round pick and not waste a mid first on a guy that will be there later in the draft.

I don't think you and I watch for the same things in evaluating players. I just want you to hold this thought. It'll be fun to revisit in in the future.

My point is if Hardy is the guy the Bulls want they don’t have to burn the #18 pick to get him. They can trade down and get additional assets. I’ll admit the only time I’ve really seen Hardy play was in the Rising Stars game and he didn’t look very good there. His draft stock has really dropped so there has to be a reason for that but yes at one time he was an elite high school prospect. Will be interesting to see how things look in a few years.

I wouldn’t take for granted that he’s a trade-down candidate just because he’s slated to go late first in mocks published two months before the draft. I understand the reservations about his game, though. For a guy like him to hit, the shooting and decision making have to be on point.

He played 13 minutes across three games. Attempted two shots.

Maybe his playing time was limited because he was a late season add? I don’t know the politics of these things in the g league.

Yeah, they added him late into the season...

I would hope at the very least, he gets a Summer League invite from the Bulls...

Let's see what AK can do this time.

I saw that UofM's Diabate tentatively declared for the draft. He's the sort of guy I'd nab in the 2nd round, if he doesn't withdraw. A bit raw, but has a ton of upside.

I’d imagine a guy who plays with confidence/aggression like that will compete well in workouts and up his stock. I’ve seen him mocked much higher most of the time.

Hypothetically, do you like him enough to trade up?

Of course. I’d trade Coby in a heartbeat to move up to get him.

I would even take him late in 1st as I think he can at least be a Capella type player. Good athlete, good versatile D, athletic.

Yeah I assume he is going higher unless something strange happens IMHO. That being said Bulls can't lose taking a highly athletic guy from LSU

I'm hoping for Eason and I think there is a chance he'll be there. The Baylor forwards will be late lottery picks after the combine, along with Ousmane Dieng. Wouldn't surprise me if Leonard Miller goes before the Bulls pick, someone will take a chance on his talents.

Diabate is a interesting prospect. I can see AK being intrigued.

Coby ain’t gonna get it done. Moving up is usually costly.

Realistically, we’re talking Ayo.

Yeah I'm generally opposed to trading up.

If it randomly is a cheap price (i.e. Coby) then go for it.

Recent Mocks are showing Tari Eason might slip to us at #18. If he's gone my favorite Draft prospect would be Kendall Brown of Baylor, a potential 3&D Wing with good athleticism.. We can bolster the "5" by acquiring Bamba or some other veteran big man that can protect the rim and grab rebounds.

Brown is a freak athlete but I think he suffers from some motor/instinct concerns.

So kind of like PWill with more athleticism but less shooting/skills.

Doesn't seem great to me.

If that happens, the Bulls should sprint to give Adam Silver the card

Every player mocked at #18 or lower is a crap shoot. They can either shoot (modestly) and play no defense or they are wicked defenders with no offense. I've gone through the profiles on a lot of the guys mocked fro #15 to #45. I'm not seeing a lot of great shooting prospects in this draft. Who do you see in the draft that can shoot among the players likely to be available to us at #18? I seel of guys with 3 point percentages in the low 20s to the mid 30s. Dell Curry should have had more kids. At least Kendall Brown has the tools to be a lockdown defender. He shot 34% from "3" and almost 70% from the free throw line. Not stellar numbers but with the right coaching (hello Drew Hanlen) and some real dedication in the gym and Brown could rise to the level of being a respectable shooter. He checks all the other boxes.

KENDALL BROWN Draft Profile
NBA Comparison: Al-Farouq Aminu/Mo Harkless

Strengths: Brown pairs excellent size with top shelf athleticism, helping make him a destructive force running in transition … Perhaps the most explosive player available for this year’s draft. Elite level athlete … Is crafty around the rim, and makes layups and dunks from contorted angles … Shot an excellent 78% around the rim, and has a knack for punishing smaller defenders … Talented athlete with high potential tied to his youth … Can beat defenders with a combination of dribble moves and pace … Solid three-point stroke/ numbers (34% from 3) highlights potential to be at least an average long range shooter … Confident with the ball in his hands, Brown is decisive getting downhill … Has a wide array of moves to evade defenders near the rim … Tremendous bounce and cutting create easy alley oop chances …His size and lateral quickness make him an ideal defender in a switching defense … Length and instincts close passing lanes and disturb ball handlers … Averaged a steal per game last season … Played and started in every game this season … Understood his role, and played his part as a defensive fulcrum and off-ball role player on offense … Unselfish player. Vision and passing is one of his better attributes, averaging a solid 1.9 per game … Possesses a solid wingspan at 6’11 …
