How can people say this is an easy match?

This is a massive decision for the FO.

Morey has pimpslapped Gar here. Its a great move on his behalf, but i dont buy into the fact that its an easy match when we have Jo.

No, you're not the only one with Red. I'm with both of you on this one.

We should have traded him when we had the chance. I believe that the smart choice now, is to let him walk.

Thank christ.

I just dont see how we cant justify it by saying he is a DPOY calibre centre but we would then be happy to trade this defensive presence as an expiring.

Doesnt make sense.

Pretty sure those two things came from different posters.

2012/2013.

Rose, Teague, Rip, Butler, Deng, Noah, Asik, Gibson, Boozer-very close to $69M, with holes at SG and PG position.

We will pay the tax if we keep Asik.

2013/2014.

Rose, Teague,Butler, Deng, Noah, Asik, Gibson(let's say $8M), Boozer- very close to $68,no starting SG, 2013 draft pick

Tax once again.

2014/2015.

Rose, Teague,Butler,Noah, Gibson, Asik-close to $56M-Mirotić and more than a half of roster to fill. Probably not paying the tax because of Boozer's amnesty but no real room to improve.

So basically, 2 years of paying the tax for a worse team than the last two season and one year of paying big money to pretty incomplete roster.

FACTS.

Define "talented," because Asik can't even catch. Asik is a good defensive player. He changes shots and impacts the game, but he regressed horribly last year. He'll never be the DPOY like the coaching staff claims but he's a high impact player defensively.

Hopefully next summer we can just amnesty Boozer and move on.

Even amnestying Boozer (or better known as JR throwing away cash) doesn't really solve anything. that just takes you away from "holy crap we are slated to pay $120 million in cash for this team".

People aren't even talking enough about how this can impact Taj. What if a team does something just like this again to us next year? I love the players we have on our team, but not unconditionally.

I'd rather just give Taj some extra minutes (which he deserves), sign a cheap scrub to foul Dwight & Bynum the few times a year we play them, and use the full MLE elsewhere

This front office and coaching staff believes Omer is DPOY talent. They're not letting that walk.

Obviously you pay him. You pay him reasonably and play him for two years and then use his huge expiring as a trade asset. Someone else said this earlier and I couldn't agree more.

I really don't see what the big deal is

Whilst the last year of his deal is a shocker it should be remembered

A ) Deng's contract is off the books the year prior
B ) The only hold overs ( currently ) are Rose , Noah and Boozer + Butler and Teague for around $48m of income before you take into account Omer's final year
C ) Taj is also going to command similar money
D ) Allow for another 3 x 1st round picks and Nikola Mirotic in 2014 + 2 league minimum players
E ) We would be sitting at around $80m for 12 to 13 players

Assume a luxury tax limit of $74m and a potential penalty of $6m - ie all up payroll cost of $86m

Except Boozer gets amnestied which wipes out the additional $6m

And if we were able to swing Boozer, Brewer and Watson for Bargnani and Calderon now - the salary differential between Boozer and Bargnani is $5m a season for the remaining 3 years left on both their contacts.

If that deal was pulled now you'd be better off amnesting Bargnani is that final year especially if you had Mirotic on board

Even if those two points came from different posters, it still rings true.

Once we match this offer, Asik is no longer an asset.

Adding to the previous point, I'd be willing to bet that if the Bulls don't match Asik's contract, it isn't like they're going to go out and spend the full MLE. They'll probably just bring back Korver and Watson ($8 mil, same as Asik's avg cap hit) while signing a center for the vet minimum.

Rose/Watson/Teague
Hamilton/Butler
Deng/Korver
Boozer/Gibson
Noah/Vet Minimum

Your 2012-13 Chicago Bulls.

Why would we have to get rid of anyone? If management TRULY believes this team is a contender, then they should be willing to pay to keep it together.

Because if you don't, you're paying close to a 100 million in cash to keep the whole team here while still having no better than a mini-MLE talent at SG or having one of Noah or Asik gone. If the idea is that you can't afford to lose the Noah and Asik tandem, then you certainly can't trade one of them to get a better SG.

The "let's keep Omer" people are literally eating their cakes while trying to have it to.

I don't know what their plans are for Taj, but I expect that going in this direction with Asik means they have decided they weren't winning with that team, and may go in a new direction. Those players contracts are more expensive than Asik, as overpaid as he may be in that 3rd year. MOstly that last sentence applies to Noah. They will unload them piece by piece for young players/picks and or savings, and try to build for Mirotic's arrival who replaces Deng whether or not Deng is traded or becomes a FA. And the Bulls probably lose in the end. Just how it is unless they land Howard.

I always find it funny when a players contract changes the fans perception on the players impact on the court, like the money is coming from your pocket. Be a fan.

For the record, I'm throwing my hat in the 'match it' pool. The key to us winning is inside defensive competence, sans Boozer...

gee...Guess who has the crosshairs on him after this is matched?....

I don't think that's the idea at all. I think people don't want to lose a player for nothing in return.

That's my thought too, but we'll see. I can't see Taj v. Boozer working out any other way.

I honestly don't see how this is even a question.

Omer Asik is a great defensive player who can lock down the paint like very few can. He is also pretty young at 26 years old (on Wednesday). We do have an injury prone starting center in Noah, who tends to miss at least a few games every season.

But no way am I risking tying up 15 million dollars in a back up with hardly any offensive skills at all.

This team needs some offensive help and is pretty cash strapped right now. They need to spend their money wisely on weaknesses that they have, which right now is the fact that nobody coming off of the bench can score consistently.

Now of course without Asik, you could say that the team's defense will suffer and you would be correct. However, the offense that can be added with Omer's money will likely outweigh the defense lost. This is due to how much emphasis is put on the whole unit rather than the individual in Thib's defense. The Bulls can pick up an average back up center for cheaper and not hurt their future financial options.

Also, about Noah for Harden/Gordon. I highly doubt that the Hornets or Thunder would do that type of trade. Noah will be this team's starter at C for the future.

How is someone not a fan because they don't want to see their team **** their salary cap for a backup center?

It's easily going to be one of the worst moves of the Paxson Era if the matches. Easily.

Matching has much more impact than not.

It's not like the money saved is going to magically be used to bring over a $5mil a year scorer. 5 million a year gets you a player like kyle korver.

Sign Asik and continue to explore trade possibilities down the road while continuing to rely on your strong defense and rebounding to win games.
