Just putting together a few things...
Charlotte wants our pick.
Gasol is on the bench.
There's a report that LA doesn't want longterm money if they trade Gasol.
I would like Gasol on the Bulls to take Boozer's slot. Even though Booz has been playing better, I think Pau is an intrinsically better player being used wrongly next to Dwight. Put him next to Noah, and all the sudden you have happiness.
So here's my deal:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=a55rv5oAdd the Charlotte pick going back to Charlotte and us getting a lesser pick (Portland's?) back in return.
Why for Charlotte:
They take on an extra year of salary (Booz for Ben Gordon) and get their pick back for the trouble, allowing them to clear the books and continue their Cho teambuilding from within. Getting Gasol for themselves makes no sense (why would they want to win, over the shortterm? when they are following the OKC) but getting him for someone else makes perfect sense.
Why for the Lakers:
They won't take on Boozer directly (doesn't fit their salary scheme) but Gordon is a guy D'Antoni will use to score and space the floor, and Mullens is a big who will shoot. Maybe they get a defensive wing like Jeff Taylor as well, I don't know. You could move some bit parts around.
Why for the Bulls:
Boozer + Rip for Pau is a no brainer in my book. I think Pau's being used wrong, is prideful, has a lot of talent and will come in motivated to Chicago to show he's not the scapegoat LA's been making him out to be. Noah, Gasol, Gibson is a beautiful frontcourt; Gasol gets to play C, Noah's back in the 4/5 combo role you want him to play, and Gibson's a great third big off of the bench.
I'll be pulling for something like this around the trade deadline. To me, Gasol is a win-now sort of move that makes cashing in the Charlotte pick (and bringing back a lesser return in the Portland pick) worthwhile.
