that is not pennys here, if this is true i can see why he didnt agree to us right away, some people has said we did offer the max, and we had moves on the line to dump salary, thats bs , i feel is we offered carmelo the max he would have commit to us already.

Man after 20 Melo threads...people still don't know what we offered Melo.

Bulls offered Melo his max via a sign and trade, according to local guys. National dudes keep saying we can't offer more, even though that's technically true.

I read what Ralph said, I feel that if we did offer him the max , he would sign with us, i feel he is reluctant to sign with is because of money, and after i read that article, it got under my skin.

Think about it.. Melo randomly says "Im going to see LA", who is run by Phil's GIRLFRIEND. Now he is "very interested" in the lakers who can pay him a Max deal, and leave Phil with NOTHING on the table while his GIRLFRIEND STEALS HIS SUPERATR.

Now Phil is left with this: Do I let my best player go to my girlfriend, or just sign and trade my superstar to Chicago so I at least get some assets in return?

If this is the strategy, it is BRILLIANT by Melo and his team. Just a thought.

Exactly. Not just Melo and Leon Rose but also GarPax. Think about this- if the Lakers genuinely think they've got a shot, Phil's going to believe them. And now its reported that Melo was BLOWN AWAY by the Spiderman pitch? C'mon.

If the S&T is going to happen, this is how it has to play out.

That would be some serious subtrafuge if Leon Rose, Thibs, and GarPax put together this little diddy over that 9 hourse. BULL/BOLIEVE

But what he said on Saturday was immediately collaborated by Woj who IS reliable as well as Marc Stein who is usually pretty good. This isn't just opinion. He has talked to people in the know clearly. Whether those are the right people is the question.

I don't understand this. The big 3 opted out, right? That means that the Heat were under the cap.

If I remember right from our discussions about Mirotic, all the exceptions count towards the cap.

Looking again at Coons FAQ, that seems right. (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q26)

The question then would go, for resigning guys, how far over could the Heat go. I guess that would be the "apron" of 4 million over the Tax line? (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q28)

But then you have the issue of "cap holds" on the big 3, since in order to resign them and go over the cap, the Heat will need to exercise "Bird rights." (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q37 and http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q38).

If, somehow, 2 of the big 3 got their bird rights renounced to eliminate the cap holds, but still signed, and everything was timed just right... maybe?

If the Heat use the Full MLE they will be hard capped at 81 million.

The Heat could re-sign the big 3 at max for each and they'd still be under the apron.

I get that (now), but how much room would they have to sign any non-Heat free agents?

The cap holds are supposed to get in the way of that, and if I read Coons FAQ right, the cap holds are a whopping 150% of the last salary - 30 million a piece for the big 3.

So I'm wondering how they would have to time things to sign anyone using something other than the exceptions or minimums. Lets say Wade takes a deal starting at 11M (50 over 4 years). Haslem resigns for 4 years, 8 million, 2M per. You have McBob at 5.7, Cole at 2.1, Granger at 2.1, Shabbaz at 1. 24 million is, total. And assuming 4 other players at the minimum, another 2 million is "held" - 26 million, right?

You still have no cap space because of Bosh and Wade. Now, if Bosh leaves, then you have Lebron's 30 million dollar cap hold + the 26 million for everyone else, plus 30... that gives you 7 million to find a replacement for Bosh?

That's my big question - now that they've signed McBob and Granger using the exceptions, do they really have room for bringing in anyone else? Because of the cap hold, the only way they can go over the cap is if one of the big 3 "signs last," and given the size of the cap holds, that eliminates the ability to sign other teams veterans unless all 3 take big pay cuts... but then they can't use the MLE to go over the cap because they have already been under it?

No- that's what the tampering over the last 6 months was about. C'mon people- didn't you learn anything from 2010? The 9 hours was just a formality and making sure everybody was all-in.

It may not happen- but nothing has disproven the S&T scenario that gets Melo his money and his contender.
Honesty is my only excuse.

While Melo is deciding, and LeBron is watching, Gordon Hayward is visiting with the MJ and the Hornets today.

I think Hayward is much better than he has shown but I don't think the Hornets can sign him enough to overcome Jazz matching. Would love to see him on the Hornets though to go with Vonleh, Jefferson, and Walker. Also with Taylor coming back, they could be pretty good in a weak east.

I just hope Melo decides soon - again if the Bulls have not heard anything at all by tonight, we should move on. For us to get money for him, we have to know something. If we have not heard anything at all and our FO is just waiting, then they are more stupid than I thought.

Brandon Marshall is the best. I love that guy. Maybe we could clone him and have his clone play for the Bulls.

refreshing comments after Dan Bernstein absolutely went in on him today.

This guy lives to rip on Derrick.

Refreshing? No one is asking Derrick to go on ESPN and beg for Melo. Talk to him for 20 minutes, tell him he should come and play in Chicago. Go to dinner. How difficult is that even for someone who's not outgoing? Really? From all accounts, all the players around the league love Derrick, so he must have SOME rapport with guys.

Guess the Bulls FO was very disappointed that Derrick chose to not go to dinner w/ everyone. Then when his camp leaked that it was a surprise and he didn't know Melo was coming? Terrible.

I'm torn both ways on this. On one hand, we praised D-Rose for not being like the other all-stars and dancing on stage. We thought it was awesome that Rose was quiet and humble and not a guy that is all about the glam of NBA life. Now we rip on him for being different than the other stars in the NBA who collude and recruit and fraternize with other stars, hoping they will build a connection that will lead to them joining forces down the road. It's a bit of a double standard.

At the same time, Rose is paid a lot of money to play basketball. When you are given franchise altering money (and lets make no mistake, the amount he makes significantly changes the direction of the franchise, you are locked into him), there should be expectations set for responsibilities beyond basketball. Those should include non-basketball things like community service, showing good moral character, staying out of trouble, (he's doing great in these areas) etc and basketball things like (if management wants) discussing the direction of the team and major personnel decisions and helping a team go out and get a high profile FA that you believe would help the team be successful. I'm not even going into the whole 'he's been paid $40m to rehab, he should be doing whatever the Bulls tell him to' as that's not fair to Derrick.

So I dunno, 2 sides to the coin, I'm not sure what side I'm on.

Very sneaky good. Kind of young, but the talent is there in a weak east! You got a bunch of solid athletes, solid basketball IQ guys, and good skills under a good defensive-minded coach!

It's so weird that the most beloved coach in Chicago sports history is battling the guy who gave him a chance (Jerry) and another guy that had a big part in 1 of his titles. Dude needs to give back by telling Melo he'll do a sign/trade if he truly wants to go to Chicago.
