I am interested how he preforms in next weeks games. His draft status started as late lotto and now is in 2nd rd.

Haven't seen anything beyond highlights, but that's a pretty damning observation. I mean, this is college competition after all.
A seriously ugly stat line today. 5-22 from the field...2 assists...6 turnovers. At least his team got the W against a highly ranked team.

I keep seeing him mocked in the second round, and I can’t even conceive of that.

But yeah, he’s a winner. He makes the right play over and over on both sides of the floor until the other team succumbs. He isn’t an elite athlete or a Luka-like magician though, making super high upside (~top 10 player) hard to see.
I’d love to hear how folks who think he’s the no-brainer #1 read today’s game and his conference play overall.

I think you're right and I'd love to see it. He is going to go down as one of the best to ever play there.
He did have a triple double...but it did come with 7 turnovers. To me he still looks like an excellent backup PG in the NBA. Great IQ, plays within himself, terrific on the break going down hill, and he has been very efficient as well.
The biggest knock I could see from NBA scouts is overall athleticism. He is just an average leaper, good but not elite speed and lateral quickness. Although the percentage looks good, there still are some questions about his 3 ball form and consistency. Needs to tighten up the handle a bit, but he will make up for some of these things because he is a terrific kid, says all the right things and has taken on and done a great job in leadership role this year.
As a huge Illini fan I couldn't be more pleased to watch him develop and succeed the way he is. He'll be top 5 for Player Of The Year and I see him going anywhere from 20-30 in the first round, and the fan in me hopes he gets even higher.

I see Franz Wagner draft range from # 14 - 22.

With guys like this you hope putting them into PnR situation with playing in NBA where floor is more spaced will help those deficiency. I aint watching college ball at all so I can't say. But guys who struggled in college creating dont usually struggle creating in NBA.

Saw him on draft.net at 33. I also love Livers.

"He'll do better with NBA spacing" has become a draft cliche. It's true of some guys, not true of lots of others. In Cade's case, he sometimes struggles when he comes cleanly off the pick and is 1-v-1 with a big defender, which means spacing isn't the whole problem.
It isn't fatal. Just something to watch re: this year's class but especially in the context of previous #1s. Some still argue that Cade's as obvious a first pick as Luka and Zion, which I'd say is indefensible at this point.
MrSparkle wrote:First/early/uneducated impression, Suggs looks like the draft #1 to me, but I need to watch more Cade. I was luka-warm on Luka on first impression too, until I started seeing how much he could successfully shoulder.
Also Mobley looks like a coordinated beast, although I’m on red alert with C prospects, particularly with very light frames.

Luka went 3rd
