Tale of two halves for Doug. First half, stay within the offense, move the ball, pass up shooting/scoring opportunities versus the second half where he was more aggressive, constantly attacking on offense. No surprise he looked better in the second half where he played basketball and quit thinking about little things.

Chances are he won't get many looks in the half court offense if playing with Rose/Butler/Gasol. But if he can get out and run in Hoiberg's scheme maybe he'll find some rhythm.

Win or lose, glad we get to see another SL game.

It's going to be hard to envision how Doug's current game will translate during the regular season.

Even beyond touches & minutes, most of his points were from offensive rebounds. And one of his scores came off a pick & roll where Doug was the screener & roll man. Is this ever going to happen on the Bulls? With Pau, Taj, Niko, and Portis are we seriously going to play McDermott at PF?

It's nice Doug got some good SL action in, but this seems meaningless for his role with the Bulls squad.

Random comment but does anybody remember when the Summer League games used to be televised when the Bulls drafted Curry and Chandler or was I remembering that incorrectly? Was it always like that before they went to NBA TV and streaming?

I'd say good chance its televised I think there are only four playoff games to air, the other games are the losers bracket which I dont think would get prime position for Tv time

I have to say I cant remember If I watched it on the net or TV but I watched it. If I had to guess it was on TV. I remember Curry was unimpressive and kinda out of shape and Chandler could not shoot anything and tried to block everything, was kinda disappointing but they were all about potential so no one cared. Those lottery days were fun summers though

would be funny if they still don't put us on TV

I think this game is going to be our last anyway right, Suns are too good for our weak guards

The televised games will be the ones with high draft picks. All the SL teams suck really. You don't watch SL for amazing basketball, but to get a look at highly touted prospects. Bulls and Suns don't have the most intriguing teams for the average watcher.

It seems they have been airing games without any preference for lottery picks.

Most of the eliminated teams play today btw

yet after the games were over they called the Raptors/Bulls game the most entertaining game of the night

To me it doesnt make sense why people would not want to see Doug McDermott and Bobby Portis. Both are relatively famous in college basketball circles

Wally even said Doug reminds him of himself several times

http://www.masslive.com/celtics/index.ssf/2014/06/nba_draft_2014_wally_szczerbia.html

“I see a resemblance in our game to a T, I really do,” said Szczerbiak. “I didn’t fool around with the ball a lot, I never went behind my back, I didn’t waste a lot of motion. If they did come up on me I had a good first step. I had broad shoulders, I squared up, I was physical to get by guys, it was tough for defenders to get to my jump shot. I see a lot of similarities to his game. He doesn’t mess around with the ball. … His post game I think is better than mine. He has better footwork, he’s refined himself more, whereas I used brute strength. I came into the league as a shooting guard, though, whereas he’s more of a three or four.

“(His ability to work off the ball is) very important, and I think the Spurs implemented that too. Coaches used to tell us, when you set a screen, make sure you hit the guy, because that’s going to get your teammate open. And then it’s up to the guy who’s coming off the screen to cut hard. If you do that, and sprint, and make sure that you don’t treat it like it’s just a routine part of the play, and you’re really trying to not just get yourself open but put pressure on the defense and open up things for your teammates by sprinting through every cut, every motion, it’s really important.”

When discussing Szczerbiak at the combine last month, McDermott noted strength as a major difference between the two players.

“I think that’s the most important thing for him,” Szczerbiak said. “And I knew that going into my senior year. I had all the skills to be great in college. But if I got stronger, if I got more athletic, I knew my skills could translate. The extra muscle and bounce allowed me to finish and-ones, hold position in the post. I was a very physical basketball player. A big misconception about my game was that I just shot threes. If you look at my career stats, I averaged 14 points, and I only averaged one 3-pointer per game. I wasn’t a specialist like Kyle Korver or J.J. Redick, although Redick can do more other things. I prided myself on having a complete game and I think (McDermott is) the same way. I don’t think he’s a guy like Kyle Korver who just shoots eight 3-pointers per game. Yeah, you could have him space the floor while (Rajon) Rondo penetrates. But he’s a guy you can run an offense through in the post or bring him off curls.”

:dontknow:

These seem like questions that will define his season and direct his career with the Bulls. Off the top of my head, he can reprise his summer league role with

Portis/Taj
Snell
Brooks/Kirk
Jimmy/Rose

Other than that, summer league Doug will be scarce.

Yeah, but Wally hits the nail on the head with regard to their major difference, and it's a big one: strength. Wally was a damn bull. He usually had that physical advantage on the wing. I don't see Doug ever getting there, he's a little behind the 8-ball I. That department and it's simply not his game. He's finesse. Wally was a truck. And he played that way in college as well.

Tony Snell should've been with D-Mac and Portis. SL Champs easily.

Well its not really all about trying to win otherwise they'd bring in Snell, Moore and Mirotic and totally dominate the league(as would other teams), its about confidence and development for first and second year guys who dont play. Plus Snell already proved he outgrew the SL last year. Its better if McDermott/Portis/Bairstow try to win without Snell, its better for their development.

People keep saying he (Doug) dominated SL last year. Can someone put up a stat comparison this years stats verse last years?

Not the Final. If they beat the Suns they play the winner of NOLA and GSW and then if they win there is another game after that. Vs whoever comes out of the Celts/Spurs-Hawks /MAvs side. That would be for the Title. This thing goes on thru the 20th. Three more possible games including tomorrow if they keep winning.
