NBA Trade Thread # 3

Post#381 » by MisterRoy » Mon Feb 15, 2021 1:03 pm

Isn't Drummond rumored to be looking for a buyout and then going to the Nets? I think if we want him, best case scenario we get a commitment from him to resign and then trade for him.

I don't think a buy-out is realistic with the amount of money he's making this season, but the Raptors seem to be in hot pursuit.

Teams getting these bought out players should be on the hook for the whole contract, with tax payments applied as well.
Constantly underwhelmed by the Bulls.

According to Charania, the Raptors and Cavs are engaging in trade discussions about Drummond. However, a deal could take a while to come together as Toronto and Cleveland navigate through cap-related challenges and the possibility of incorporating other teams, so nothing is imminent.

It also says hat he could end up in the buyout market, which clearly shows his current value.

Big expiring contracts are tough to get value for - same problem with Otto

We should make a play for him. OPJ and someone else to give Cleveland some value. Not much value but some.

I have been going back and forth on this and trying to figure out if Drummond fits how Donavan wants to play ??

Positives: He would bring physicality and rebounding at the Center position. He also seems to be a ok passer and his age fits the Bulls timeline.

Negatives: He is slow a foot, not a 3 pt shooter and problems at the FT line.

I don't know, I am looking for others feedback on this !!!

Spurs have to many guards. They resigned Murray and White, Derozan is expiring, K.Johnson having a breakout year. L.Walker is interesting player who dont play enough for his talent. Spurs need younger center to replace Aldrige expiring, besides Poeltl. I would offer W.Carter for L.Walker or Lauri for Walker if Bulls dont plan to resign Markkanen.

A trade that works $-wise is:

Bulls OUT: Porter/Gafford IN: Boucher/Powell/Johnson
Raptors OUT: Boucher/Powell/Johnson IN: Drummond
Cavs OUT: Drummond IN: Porter/Gafford

That’s horrible for the Raptors.

It is, but they have contract issues to make salaries match.

With Holmes becoming a FA and Barnes being rumored to be available, what about the following for those 2:

Lauri/Carter/Hutch/Valentine/Felicio...works $-wise. Gives them Carter and Hutch under contract next season, some rights on Lauri and a free look, Val and Felicio as filler.

Which is why I don’t think the Raptors are actually interested. They‘d almost have to give up Powell and there’s absolutely no way Drummond is worth that.

Drummond will get bought out and go for a ring or where he will get paid.

Why wouldn't he "get paid" here if we traded for him?

The only contender he could actually help is Brooklyn IMO. I‘m sure Cleveland prefers to trade him though.

I see DET is doing same with Griffin. I'd still love to do a deal to get Grant as part of that deal.

I'd trade Otto/Lauri/Sato/Felicio and our lotto protected 2021 that turns unprotected in 2022.

I would also try to nab Collins from ATL, but would try without a 1st:

Lauri/Hutch/Val/Gafford for Collins/Snell (expiring filler).
