At the end of all the explanations , you should have quoted Denzel in He got game because not only are you illustrating the new effectiveness of D-Rose's pick and roll game..

but..

"I'm teaching brother, I'm teaching son, I'm teaching" - Jake Shuttlesworth

that you are...

:-) :-) lol..not a direct quote i guess..

but again awesome work..

Haha thanks. Another thing that this thread shows is that Rose is learning how to play at less than 100 mph. He realizes that every pick and roll doesn't need him coming off of it at 100 mph barreling towards the paint. The next steps I hope that we see going forward are a lot more of the 7th example (last one). It shows Rose slowing down his dribble in the paint. If Rose can do this more, he will be able to not only hit more plays like the one to Noah, but he will be able to then kick it into gear a lot closer to the rim. Steve Nash is an absolute master of this.

Maybe a silver lining to the Rose injury cloud? It seems that, with him being hurt, he looks to defer more, and places more of an emphasis on spacing and positioning.

No, but mainly because he's such an elite scorer. The fact that it's even a question is what makes him such a great player. His passing has caught up considerably, but he's a fantastic scorer; he's the best passer/scorer combo by a considerable margin.

This was brilliant Al, and tbh, their is no reason why we cant be running this a lot more.

That Boozer clip, you're correct. He caught the pass in an attacking position, unlike the majority of his touches in which he is flat footed 15-18 feet out.

Same thing with Jo. I think giving the ball to these guys in a stagnant position is a mistake. They wont create consistent offense however if we have the ball moving and more importantly the offensive receiver moving, this offense looks a lot more fluid as it makes the opposing defense have to make a choice - do i stay on my man or do i leave him to help on the driver?

Pick n Roll/Pop, its basic but its so damaging.

There were a few times were Deng hit Boozer in a great position to score. When Boozer grabs a pass inside the free throw line, if you don't have someone waiting to block him he is scoring.

Agreed.

Id also like to see some more lobs from Derrick to our bigs, hell even to Brewer (if he finishes). We very rarely do it, but again, it eliminates the need for the bigs to do any creation of sorts, just go up and grab the thing.

With the attention Rose gets on a penetrating move, i wouldnt be surprised if he is doubled every time he enters the 3 point arc.

Maybe her saw your avvy which rekindled his love for attacking the hole...

Yeah, that was lame.

Seriously though, Korver in the corner, Derrick and Booze on the pnr with Noah cleaning up and Deng/Rip chipping in from the mid range can be a scary offensive play.

I hate you alucryts, I was going to work and now I'm stuck with your fascinating posts! Just the other day I thought about looking for those PnR threads and now I have to go all through them again. So much for getting my work done :(.
Anyway, you're my hero for putting all this stuff together, really appreciate what you're doing here. Thanks man!

Whoever posted about throwing lobs was on point as far as im concerned.I have always wondered this, the Bulls do have Rose, Brewer,Taj,Noah and maybe Omer.Sometimes you have to go over the defense, but I understand that the spectacular don't win games, but simple pick n roll/pop,if utilized effectively is a devastating offensive weapon.

I think it has something to do with Omer's development in European basketball. I see alot of instances where the pg on European teams run the Pick and Roll and if the roll man isn't covered would throw a soft lob over the defense and let the rolling big go up and get it.

It seems like a very basic play over in Europe and why i see Euro PGs like Rubio and Calderon for example making those types of passes often in the NBA.

I can't recall a single instance rose has thrown a lob or a soft floating pass over the defense to a rolling big. Which is something i absolutely think he can do, considering his soft touch in the paint.

I haven't read many posts in this thread so sorry if it's already been mentioned but I don't know why we aren't running the free throw line pick and roll with Boozer? Has Thibs lost that much confidence in Boozer? We need to do something to get him going and that pick and roll worked an absolute treat in Utah.
