just curious...

Would anybody have MORE interest in the WNBA if they just had a 9 ft hoop and maybe a slightly smaller ball ?(maybe its smaller now, i dunno)

I've always felt that It might pique my interest if the game was just a tad more interesting with more than just a handful of players that can get to the rim. Reducing it to 9ft would, at least IMO, give the game a significant boost in "watch-ability"

am I alone on this ?

(honeslty I feel the same way about the poor grade school kids trying to launch a shot to a 10' basket. Its embarrassing... they don't make them throw 60 foot pitches in little league.. its 46 feet.. can you imagine your average little league throwing 60 foot pitches ? It would be as bad as the grade school basketball kids launching shots now... they pretty much just throw it up and pray ... watching my nephew play middle school BB was, well, just terrible..even a layup was a challenge for 80% of the kids on the team.

it wouldn't for me. i'm more interested in them continuing to improve the actual product and equal out the talent than anything else. it's kind of a pain in the ass to see one player miss a season and then the entire team goes in the crapper and then they draft a top player who gets them back to the top and then it happens again. it happened when Leslie missed a season then they got Parker, then she missed a season as well and etc.

This is an interesting post. I wouldn't have more interest in WNBA with a shorter hoop, no, though I have zero interest to begin with in practically any league outside of NBA and NFL. But it's interesting to consider to what extent the parameters of a game should be adjusted to the capabilities of those playing it. I mean, if you should lower the hoop for women and kids, should we not raise it over time in the men's game to reflect taller players? (if they are getting taller). I think baseball kind of needs to be smaller scale because it's almost impossible to have a game with full length pitching for kids. But kids old enough to play basketball can score frequently enough on even a 10 foot hoop IMO. I mean, I know of kids league's with 8 foot hoops, but it's for very young kids. Once you're like 8-9 years old, the 10 foot hoop is fine IMO. IIRC, little league is full size diamond (not fences) and mound from age 13 or 14. These WNBA players are probably as tall as average men if not taller on average, so I think the 10 footer is fine with them and their fan.

The nice thing about the WNBA being a nothing sport is that the players have perspective. I was on a plane once with WNBA team, can't remember which, and they were the nicest and most genuine athletes you'll ever meet. Not an ounce of prima donna. Which ironically is a term used to describe women, but these women had nothing on an NBA star when it came to being divas.

When Geno Auriemma suggested lowering the rim, I thought it was a great idea. I'm a fan of the women's game, but it can be hard to watch. When players struggle to make basic plays (i.e. lay-ups) the game can become a drag as a spectator. 9 feet is a little too short though. The game should retain its finesse qualities. And a player like Griner would wreak havoc.

Whoa. Absolutely none of that here. Seems very out of keeping with your normal persona.

the comment is so wrong that's it's funny in the sense that he was bold enough to say it and some people think that.

She's so good it isn't even funny... She's like a, dare I say it, female version of Kevin Durant. She's so exciting to watch that I must admit, I might watch way more WNBA games than I previously have.

You know what...that's a far better comparison now that you've brought it up. Dirk is who she's best compared to right now.
