Re: Bulls looking at No. 8 with McDermott
Also, my understanding is the with Gay opting in this weekend, Sacramento does not have cap room next year, so we couldn't do a deferred hand shake deal and trade Taj for nothing but a draft pick. We'd have to take CBA appropriate salary back, right? Therefore, this deal doesn't really help us to get Melo at all as far as I can see. Is that right?

Re: Bulls looking at No. 8 with McDermott
Step 1: Trade a bunch of stuff. Like, lots more than what you guys are talking about, for McDermott
Step 2: Have Melo laugh at the Bulls in free agency because they gutted the team for McDermott
Step 3: Keep Boozer because you can't get a star, save a fortune in cash and start selling fanbase on 2015 plan.

Stauskas isn't a tweener and can handle the ball pretty well. Both have their issues on defense but I will take Stauskas all day and his potential over McDermott.

http://nbadraft.net/players/doug-mcdermott
NBAdraft.net player comps for Stauskas is Jason Kapono and McBuckets is Wally Szczerbiak.
Wally over Kapono all day.
But still, I don't feel comfortable with either at 8.
Bad comps for both IMO.
Stauskas is no where near Kapono like. He will be a far better NBA guy if he reaches his potential.
Darius Miles Davis wrote:MrFortune3 wrote:Darius Miles Davis wrote:As I have said several times on this board, I much prefer Stauskas if we move up in the draft. I also believe Nik is worthy of a #8 pick, and thought I'm a Taj fan, if it's this move that gets you Stauskas and Melo, I'm OK with it.
I can understand how Stauskas can match up with shooting guards in the league, perhaps the weakest position in the NBA right now. But how is McDermott going to guard the LeBrons, Durants, and (possibly) Melos in the league right now?
On defense, McDermott will have to guard a 4 on most nights. He's too slow and lacks the athleticism needed to keep up with the modern NBA 3's.
Team defense will help but he is not going to be able to check most of the 3's in the league and while he will have issues with size at the 4 he will likely have far less match up problems there than at the 3.
Even though LeBron, Carmelo, Durant play the 4 at times.
This isn't good either. Again, I much prefer Stauskas' potential in guarding 2s than McDermott's potential at guarding NBA forwards.
I prefer Stauskas by a wide margin as well.

Considering this is the Bulls though. Can't you just imagine it happening where Embiid is there, we trade up and everyone is chanting for Embiid.
With the 8th pick, The Chicago Bulls select Doug McDermott, SF, Creighton.

DMD's point just made me feel better. The Kings can't take Taj unless they send us 7M worth of salaries. So there would be no savings for the supposed Melo offer. Which means that the Bulls can't really be talking about sending Taj to the Kings for 8, right?

Its actualy not, they say Gms in the lottery are extremely high on Mcdermott. I read that Mcdermot last no later then 10 because the Bobcats are in love with him. For comparison I read that most Gms have MCdermott rated above Stauskas and Harris. They say hes been dominating guys who are atheletic in workouts aswell. Any team that gets Mcdermott knows they are getting an Elite shooter that is a high IQ guy that can contribute from day 1.

C'mon, CF. They've been right about Taj and Butler... two guys who were considered a reach at the time. Taj was too old and Jimmy supposedly only had 2nd round scrub talent. I actually don't like McDermott, but we should give this kid the benefit of the doubt if the FO is that high on him. It's also possible that this is just a smokescreen for someone else they really like at #8.

Re: Bulls looking at No. 8 with McDermott
This draft, in no particular order Warren, Stauskus, Hairston, McDermott, Hood.
SF/SG measurebles (max vert, agility, sprint)
Player #1….35.5….10.79…3.27
Player #2….35.5….11.1…..3.26
Player #3….36.5….11.1…..3.29
Player #4….37.0….11.12…3.32
Player #5….36.0….11.21…3.38
Szczerbiak, Korver, Thompson, et. al. have done okay at the NBA level.
I don't care one way or the other if Bulls want McD but I'd trust the F.O. to recognize if he'll be able to have success in the NBA.

Re: Bulls looking at No. 8 with McDermott
The definite guys gone by 8 are Exum, Parker, and Wiggins. In some order that could be your top 3.
The next tier of probably gone is Embiid and Smart.
At 8 you are sitting at a place where you're going to have the most of the high ceiling, low floor guys. Guys like Gordon, Vonleh, Lavine...which is a scary place to be.
McDermott has a skill that we need, even with Melo. Especially since we probably need to move Dunleavy for him. If Thibs can make Korver a pretty decent team defender, wonder what could do with him.

I really hope it's a smokescreen. Snell, Gibson, Teague, and Johnson were all pretty surprising. So was Mirotic.
Besides someone like Randall or Embiid falling, maybe we have interest in someone like Gordon. He's got tons of potential, is out of our current range, and would be completely unexpected.

Re: Bulls looking at No. 8 with McDermott
I like McDermott - my only concern is what we are giving up to get him.
If we have to dump Taj, MDJ, picks and our exceptions to sign Melo - is it worth doing all of that in exchange for McDermott and signing Melo?
Rose / Butler / Melo / McDermott (?)/Noah
I don't know that I would - but i certainly understand why we are having these discussions.

God help me I don't know if there is a player I hate in this draft more than Gordon. I keep having Tyrus Thomas flash-backs, and I loved Thomas at the time we drafted him.

Recently we haven't had much going for us in the draft.

Is there ANY evidence that the above scenario is the case? I see you post something like this A LOT.
I mean I get it, I understand the doubt because I'm right there with most. But I can't find ANYTHING to support the above other than some draft rumors.

I could see him being a bust too, but I personally like his potential quite a bit.
Trading up for Saric doesn't make sense. It seems too out there that we're into McDermott. The Bulls haven't been this open about who they like in the draft since Wade. To me that means we're either targeting Staukas or Gordon here, and using McDermott as a smokescreen.
