The one thing you cant truly project is how a young person would perform in another environment.
My guess is if we would have drafted MPJ, we would look like idiots. Because we would have Felicio as our starting center. MPJ would miss a year, then come up under the guidance of Jim Boylen. We see what it did for Lauri's game.
So who knows what it would look like here.

I went to the Barclay Center with my son to watch the Bulls draft Michael Porter Jr, and they came away with Wendell Carter. I was pissed to no end, especially after watching Wendell with that Gucci scarf **** wrapped around his shoulder. Over the past two years, being a die-hard fan, I have forced myself to like Wendell Carter, but I realize he is more ordinary than anything else. In fact, we'll be lucky if he even achieves the status of a Carlos Boozer, mind you an Elton Brand. He tries on defense and he is a solid rebounder, but what else really? An inconsistent jumpshot, an awkward looking hook-shot, foul prone, problem catching the ball in traffic? I was on that Porter's bandwagon forever, but in the end I had to convince myself to like Wendell Carter.

The Bulls argued to join the Bubble? Lol. It sucks to know that the team you are rooting for would not make it to the playoffs even if they were picking 10 teams per conference. I kind of feel bad for Coby White because he was on a very strong run, but otherwise we got what we deserve.

Yep. Hope he stays healthy.
WCJ too, for that matter.

I know, that is truly ironic.

Well, WCJ was kind of a no-brainer for GarPax. I mean, we’re talking about GarPax. Doug Collins joined the org. An All-American defensive big man from Duke with a post-game? So regardless who we liked, I knew there was no chance in hell they’d draft anybody but Wendell.
Where my hopes were higher... I for some reason thought WCJ had a Brand or Horford potential due to having a nice shooting form and strong handle in the post. Where I screwed up, was that a strong post handle doesn’t mean much in the NBA, and a good shooting form in low volume doesn’t mean much if the guy has zero perimeter handling skills. Also, I watch 10% NCAA basketball compared to NBA, so I saw some good Wendell efforts but that doesn’t mean **** for a scout.
If he stays healthy and develops a spot-up shot, he’s not a bad player. But the mis-evaluation was strong. You could’ve literally kept RoLo and been better off for the following 5 years. If he does finally avoid injury and get in shape, he is a nice player. Just... not the type you draft at #7, develop for 4 years, and extend to starter salary.

Amidst all this complaining about Porter, I sure don't see a whole lot of people yearning for Harry Giles around here.
Credit to Denver. How they've developed a guy his age who missed two straight years to back injuries and comes from a family that can't walk to the mailbox without tearing a ligament is pretty impressive.

Yeah, MPJ is looking great and I too was hoping the Bulls took him at 7. However the question was his back which us why he fell to 14 in the first place. Also, considering that the Bulls have a poor record of developing young players, I highly doubt that Porter Jr would have shown the promise he is now. However, the GM that drafted both him and Bol Bol is now our VP. Hopefully that leads to better player development and drafting.

I'm not sure Denver did anything special other than give him time to properly heal. The talent has always been there.

Take some solace in knowing that when the next MPJ comes around we now have the GM that would actually have the balls to take him.
Still, imagine how much more optimistic we'd be feeling about this rebuild if we had a core of LaVine, Lauri, MPJ, White, and Bol.

Re: Around The NBA: 2019-20 RESTART
Am I crazy to think OKC, HOU and TOR have strong shots to win this year?
I acknowledge that MIL and LAL had great reg. seasons up to the shutdown, but I’ve had issues with their rosters from day 1.
Having Middleton be my 3P closer reminds me of the lack of faith I had when Kirk Hinrich ran a play with 10 seconds left. Lakers’ perimeter rotation and age can’t be ignored. Both can be exploited in a playoff series.
HOU is a total dark-horse but they’d be the perfect team to take advantage of this bizarre timeline if Harden and Westbrook both caught fire next month.
OKC and Toronto are plain smooth-running engines with deep depth.
Of course LAC, despite their mediocre play, they’re still the favorites if they get their whole team together by the end of the month.
Also think BOS is right up there.

Re: Around The NBA: 2019-20 RESTART
No chance in hell MPJ would look like that if the Bulls drafted him. His injuries wouldn't have been handled properly. Instead of a redshirt year, there would've been multiple "MPJ out for 6-8 weeks" or "MPJ out indefinitely" throughout his rookie season. He would've played a few games, don't look right, and then sit out because of soreness. Heck, he may even play through his injuries because toughness and blue collar mentality baby! Bulls fans would've quickly turned on him after one rookie year calling him a bust.
And all that is before the Boylen factor.

No mid range for MPJ under Boylen - he would look like Lauri now.

Do you really think AK would have taken MPJ at 7? It's one thing at 14. It's another at 7.
I thought GarPax should have traded down but who knows the options available or if they even looked.

I had no strong opinion on MPJ in 2018 because I just didn't watch him play in highschool and the tiny bit of college tape felt useless after such a long injury. Didn't really understand why the Clippers didn't take him at 13, though. They had another pick just before (SGA, a great selection) and probably should have taken the risk there.
