At least Justin Fields is a 2 year starter for a big time CFB program. I think he’ll be solid. But we really want a franchise QB for the next decade+ to end this revolving door at the most important position in sports.

and they're quite OK with that gamble, because without this trade they were getting fired anyway. even if they KNEW this is a bad trade, they would still have done it

I mean, we’re in a lot of trouble. Can they get us out of it with this deal? Who the f knows. Its better than the Wilson stuff. Id be exited if it was 2017. Right now Im still worried.

we're unlikely to find out in field's rookie season. unless he looks awful we're likely to see golden boy pace strutting around halas hall beyond next season

That’s how I always knew this was going to happen. The only way he could possibly sell the future was to take a name rookie QB in the first round. If the team craters next year he still will get canned. If the team treads water he still might get canned. But Fields gives him something to hold off the axe for the moment. Monds not so much.

I think I like him as a leadership prospect, although I haven’t read a lot about him. Why he is falling with what he had going for him is concerning considering the hype around this group of QBs

As an outsider, I love what the Bears did tonight.

And the Patriots simply grab their QB with their own pick. Must be nice to function that way.

Things change REAL quick when you make dumbass trades like the one they made for Hopkins and have the worst culture in the NFL.

Quit trollin and enjoy the hope that Justin Fields offers. He's an elite athlete, winning QB with great legs and a great arm.

just because i don't possess your feverish blind optimism doesn't mean i'm trolling

You kept mentioning Watson/Houston.

They were 24-13 when he started before last year. If the Bears went on a run like that over the next three years or so, that would be 6 years of .500 or above football. That's not easy to do.

We have another window now that we have a QB at $4.75m/year over the next 4 years.

at minimum it's good for bears fans that pace didn't get hosed. i assume that he was negotiating with a bunch of teams

He was the 2nd QB all year, he outplayed Lawrence, lost in the CFB Champ and ran a 4.4 40. Feels like why we picked Mitch over Watson.

falcons, packers...both have had bad teams with excellent to elite QBs. again, providing counterpoints is not trolling. consistently excellent teams like the patriots w/ brady and the seahawks w/ russell wilson are the exceptions, not the rule

The number 1 next year was pretty stiff price I’m thinking. But as always it depends on Fields.

Now getting any sort of draft capital for the dead weight of Foles and Miller is the next challenge.

I like the move! I’m just glad it wasn’t Jones as I like Fields upside way more. I’m pumped for the Bears future. Also, rumors have it the Vikings were leaning towards taking Fields at 14 so nice to see the Bears jump them.

That’s really been the entire anti-Wilson sentiment IMO. Yeah they selling that aspect, and I tend to agree this was the only way forward given the ruins of plan A. Too bad they didn’t tank though. The trade ups have been rough on the raw build materials

The only time the Packers have been bad is when Rodgers got hurt. Double digit wins every year he's played 16 games. 26-6 in the last two years.

Steelers with Ben, Saints with Brees, Colts during the Manning era, Eagles when they had Mcnabb, Packers with Favre/Rodgers, etc

I saw a stat somewhere that said Fields was one of the most accurate deep ball passers (20+ yards) in the past 10 years of college football. The kid has an arm, which is necessary in the Windy City. But he also has the mobility to be a dual threat QB. I'm really excited about this pick.

If you search for Justin Fields on youtube, some of the first videos that show up are "Why is Justin Fields falling down draft charts?" I watched a few of them and no one really had an answer. He had bad games against Northwestern (#1 ranked defense in the nation) and Indiana (#5 ranked defense in the nation) but otherwise he was fairly dominant at the highest level.

He showed a lot of a toughness in that Clemson game where he got absolutely smashed in the ribs, only to come back and throw several deep TD passes.

He might not become an elite QB in the NFL, but I have a feeling he'll be good. I think he'll be the best QB the Bears have had in a long while. He says that he modeled his game after Russell Wilson, and there are a lot of similarities. If he can be half the QB that Wilson is, our franchise should be in a good place for the next 10+ years.

Justin Fields might be the best QB in our division if Rodgers decides to leave. His competition would be Kirk Cousins, Jordan Love, and Jared Goff. Something to think about.
