Mr. Tibbs wrote:I think I'm on my own island here but I actually liked Denzel. Awful athleticism, couldn't really finish around the basket and didn't try to. But I thought he kept the offense humming and could put up points fast when he was hot. I think there's a tendency to overreact to people who have Javale Mcgee level cringey bad moments..which admittedly valentine definitely had lol.

I'm not at all torn up that he's not here anymore, but I think he's good enough to be an NBA rotation player on a number of teams. I also think he's infinitely better than say a Chandler Hutchison (which may not be saying much but still).

On a slightly related note..does anyone have that gif where Denzel looked like a crazy person on the bench reacting to Makoka going nuts in his first game? I feel like I've had nightmares of that.

Found a bonus clip, even if I couldn't find the actual full gif I was looking for.

One of my least favorite Bulls of the last 10 years. My starting 5 of guys I wanted off the team

CPayne
Valentine
Dougie
Boozer
Felicio (more for the stupid contract-I STILL can't see why they gave him 4 guaranteed years)

I found this interview he did about his rap career with USA today last February.

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2021/02/bulls-denzel-valentine-music-rap-ep-videos

And here’s a YouTube video I found by the random dude off the street that sonned Denzel in the Drew League. Denzel sounds like a pompous ass. And one that couldn’t back up his words in the least. Quite the opposite of Brian Scalabrine destroying NCAA starters and the like.

He’s just too inconsistent, not very athletic, and doesn’t have good BBIQ. Maybe he’ll be a fringe NBA player for a few more years but his days are numbered. Still wish him the best though.

In that case, he should add the 5 too. Why sell himself short?

denzel is one of the funniest players i've ever had the fortune of watching. you are playing yourself if you hold any feelings of animosity toward him instead of just savoring the spectacle

plus he led the summer bulls, the franchise's pinnacle of success from 2015-2020. hang his jersey in the rafters

Valentine was bad, really bad.

This Season Stats:
37.3% FG
33.1% 3PT
6.5 PPG
17 MPG

He was given more opportunities than most players would ever get and failed to excel. He isn't a NBA level player.

Now 28 years old he is what he is. A player that peaked in college.

Not according to Denzel he isn't... he can play and gaurd 4 positions and do so much more than the Bulls allowed him to do...

Plus he is like the top 5 MCs of all time

Denzel might hang on for a few years cause he really can shoot and pass the ball, but beyond that he's not NBA caliber. Coupled with Thad's retirement, I'm really not surprised if most of GarPax's 19/20 roster is basically out the league or fishing for camp deals by 2023... just like the 13-18 crop, largely out the league. Had a knack for overpaying guys who need to retire or belong in the Euroleague. Of course I'm not talking about starters who simply got injured like Noah or Rose, or Taj, but I speak of their back-end roster: paying cap space for Kirk and Dunleavy clearly 1 tweak away from retirement. Giving Boozer 5y (didn't understand why they gave 5; he already was a shadow of his pre-surgery self in Utah). Giving Wade 2y. They just had a knack for not really projecting a guy's drop in 1-2 years, which is interesting considering they patted themselves on being excellent cheap talent scouts.

But it was more surprising to me that they started drafting guys with athletic specs barely resembling 41 year olds still playing in the league (i.e. Vince Carter, Jamal Crawford and Udonis Haslem): Denzel, Doug, Zipser, Bairstow, Wendell, Lauri, Coby.

Coby can run fast, which is his saving point, but man... the kid can't jump. I say this with 100% seriousness; I think that Michael Jordan at freaking 58yo can still beat any of those guys less than half his age in 1-on-1. I realize he's the GOAT, but I'm just saying that GarPax kept nabbing some SUPER sub-par NBA athletes.

No, badly worded... I meant 2023-ish (I imagine he'll be retired... at least he seemed to suggest that in an interview of him, coupled with how he needed a 20 mpg workload). Fact is he had a great bounce-back year but he is on his last legs.

Oh! Gotcha. I was thinking the Bulls really did a number with Thad's emotions considering he considered retiring after Boylen.
