I’m sure there is for some brands and some players. Zach/NB (regardless of whether that is the pairing) are good examples. Chicago and NY are in my mind the two major cities for American basketball culture. The number of basketball stars that emerge from northern Illinois is just downright bonkers. Brand support, especially for a secondary brand trying to carve out a new and bigger market share, in this market spreading to the street/cultural level could make a huge impact.
It would be a logical gamble for throwing extra dollars at a player. Especially a player like Zach who himself is not first tier but looking to make a special place for himself as a spokesperson.
