I’m sure there is for some brands and some players. Zach/NB (regardless of whether that is the pairing) are good examples. Chicago and NY are in my mind the two major cities for American basketball culture. The number of basketball stars that emerge from northern Illinois is just downright bonkers. Brand support, especially for a secondary brand trying to carve out a new and bigger market share, in this market spreading to the street/cultural level could make a huge impact.

It would be a logical gamble for throwing extra dollars at a player. Especially a player like Zach who himself is not first tier but looking to make a special place for himself as a spokesperson.

look out in the horizon buddy. NB have some nice shoes.

under the radar, but very nice shoes. I wouldn't buy Nikes or Adidas, but when he signs with NB I may get a pair.

I don't really buy or wear sneakers (I have a pair of Asics that I wear to play tennis, otherwise I wear "adult" shoes  ) but I do see kids around downtown, none of them are ever wearing NB. :dontknow:

wow, remember when Noah changed shoes to that French brand LeCoq trying to secure some endorsement bag-
then ended up suing them 5 years later because he claimed they triggered his plantar fascitis?

I mean how many of you have bought a cool new pair of shoes based on looks only to find they hurt your feet?
I used to wear Vans, Nike and stuff - but I switched to VIONIC and KEEN after experiencing issues and these are the only brands I wear now. Something about their arch just works for me. If I wear something else for a few days I can tell.

a finely trained athlete like Zach switching his treads mid season and then having knee issues?
That's not a coincidence....

I thought NB were mostly jogging shoes.

Any chance that’s why Lavine has been so terrible on defense bc he is focused on not getting hurt until he inks the contract?

I don't think he has the capability to play great offense and average defense with his current knee injury. Let's be real, offense generally gets you paid (unless you're an elite defender). Zach is more likely to get an all-NBA spot if he balls out on offense and stops caring about defense vs sacrificing a little offense to play better defense. All-NBA = supermax eligibility. Basically, I agree with your premise.

Well...

One, he has been dealing with knee issues since early in the season and he was wearing mostly Kobe's

Two he initially tore his ACL wearing Nike's to begin with

Check out Kuru if you have foot issues they are really good for that. Not to different from Keens for feel.

As far as NB being jogging shoes... That was their prime market for sure but every large shoe company has good engineers, and he would have them built to his spec. NB is more than fine of a company too, I mean they have a great reputation for running they get the idea of foot stress for sure.

Obviously any SG in Chicago though, ideally you want them in Jordan Brand. Dear will always be in Kobe's, Kobe unofficially started sponsoring him since he was in HS he would give him free shoes. He has pretty much only worn Kobe's. It would be cool to have them rep Kobe and MJ but... Jordan Brand has enough players IMHO and NB only has Kawhi I am sure they will pony up more money than Nike to Jordan would imho.

NB probably paid the most but I wouldn't of went in that direction, personally.

Really depends how far the gap in contract is. Lets say it is 10 mil a year more for 5 years I mean that is almost foolish for him not to take 50 million IMHO. Granted I think most guys would prefer Jordan or Nike over NB theoretically but that is also why Nike can pay 2nd tier guys less. Look at the bag Adidas gave D Rose... WOW

Congrats to Zach.

I will say this, Klutch or whomever is Zach's marketing guy probably deserves a HUGE raise. The Mountain Dew and State Farm commercials and now New Balance Show contract and shoe. Cap that off with a max contract in the offseason. Zach's 2022 bank statement will be looking nice.

Not that much of a surprise at all. He's been rocking New Balance for a minute now and I like the move for him. Look forward to the possible signature shoe 8-)

As a New Balance guy, I'm happy to now rep some Bulls shoes

Hopefully the LaVine's come in black on black so I can pass them off as dress shoes.

Not at all Zach lavine is super soft and makes no one on the team better. He makes jimmy butler look like Michael freaking Jordan. Zach instills 0 fear into the other team and is failing miserably at being a leader.

Ok that's all a bunch of hand waving "he doesn't play like I want" bs. Aside from a few minutes in the second quarter you cannot honestly be upset with how Zach played tonight.
