Could be a smart move. IIRC, NCAA stars make more in NIL than they do as rookies. Second, there is noise about raising WNBA salaries. Waiting might be the best way to maximize $ for her.

Ah yes. I was wondering about her decision, but now I understand. The players will be negotiating a new agreement after this season, and given the huge increase in TV money the salary structure will rise sharply. In short, you are right ... assuming that she retains the same draft position (she was expected to go #2), she will make a significantly higher rookie salary by waiting. Plus, her NIL payments next year will almost certainly be higher than the current WNBA rookie salaries.

here is my big board for the sky tonight based on like 20 minutes of research:

1. te-hina paopao
2. serena sundell
3. shyanne sellers
4. georgia amoore
5. maddy westbeld

also cool: harmoni turner, sarah ashlee barker, hailey van lith
do not want: saniya rivers

will be massively outraged if they do not follow this ironclad blueprint for success.

(i also like that they grabbed another pick at the end of the first round. i know this isn't a great draft class and wnba picks are super dicey in genral, but it looks like there are a decent number of intriguing players who are projected to be available from 10-17, and grabbing one more bite at the apple makes it more likely that you have at least one hit)

Sivka is a great pick.

Van Lith probably going to be garbage though. There were much better options.

Definitely! She was playing out of position and in a weird role at LSU. Louisville and TCU played her correctly and she shined.

hvl seemed like the fourth or fifth best guard option on the board and i don't really like her size/shooting profile, but she was crazy good last year so i'm not totally down on it

respect their strategy of just picking all the most famous players

i do think it's a shame to go with a kinda underwhelming pg at 12 because it seems pretty likely a better pg will be available at 16, given how things are shaking out

I admit I don't know much about either of the first rd picks but the one thing I have heard about HVL is that she is a dawg (in a good way).

Had EDD AND Sylvia Fowles at the same time and manage to piss them both off. Got basically nothing for Fowles and got something, at least, for EDD.
