I felt kinda bad for Giddey earlier this year. He was on a new team in a new town after being traded away from his old team following a very public benching, struggling to get/earn trust from his new coach and getting benched in crunch time. He was feeling the pressure with a future contract on the line and his shoulders were drooping. I've got a son his age who kinda resembles a shorter version of him who is just out of school and trying to get started in a new place so I was empathetic because I could Identify.

The kid has faced adversity and he has turned it around. I'm happy for him. Like to see that kind of story.

Vooch and Huerter are playing starters minutes.

We are probably a few games from being Vooch back to 30 mins, Collins getting 15 and Smith Zero.

Matas back to playing barely 20 mins. Because well Billy reasons :banghead:

Billy's a coach. His job is to coach winning basketball, and win games. Bulls might get fined they keep Vuc on the bench and keep starting Collins, lol. Vuc has started every game, it's an insult to him and very obvious if Smith or Collins start over him. Getting Matas an extra 5-10 minutes is probably REALLY far down on his list of priorities.

Coaches are remembered by their win-loss record, no coach is trying to lose games.

I don’t want to blow it if it means Giddey has to play poorly. I hope he drops 40.

But it should be. Thats is the point I am making. People seem to think that another rookie wont be in the same trap that Matas currently is in.

Whomever we get, they will be playing under Billy Donovan.

If its a guard, they will be trying to play behind a glut of other guards. And will get spot minutes.
If its a big, again they will have to deal with Vooch (if still here), Collins and Smith.

Billy just wants to play vets.

Talking about from a coaches perspective. In your view, it benefits Matas more if he gets more minutes early. Billy's been in the league a long time, and coached a lot of young players. Matas could have started or gotten a lot more minutes early. Lot of complaints about Pat Will getting minutes when Billy did exactly that. Matas could also be hurt right now, getting more minutes before his body is ready. He's not going to hit the rookie wall. He'll peak by the end of the season and go into the summer on a high.

And despite what some may think, in my opinion the players the coach think will help win should be playing, always. Favoritism is not a good team building technique. The coach's job is winning games, not developing young players during game time.

Hypothetical.
we win the play in and take the Cavs to 6 games in round 1.

Are you more optimistic or more concerned about how AKME will evaluate the situation?

That might be it for Giddey tonight if the Pacers don’t close the gap fast.

We have been building through the draft since Jordan left

I just don't believe in that route anymore until proven otherwise

The way I wanted us to build going forward was just create a core through trades free agency and some draft and keep moving things til a group of guys just click. Not necessarily be contenders but you can see they play well and play together. Then the front office builds on that

So if this group makes some small noise I wouldn't mind just building on it. Add a star or 2, some quality bench guys etc.

This team hasn't built through the draft since the early 2000's. #7 overall picks isn't building through the draft.

What's crazy, you want so badly for Pat will to just start to get it. You know? Bro, you can pick up your hustle. Make smart basketball plays. His lack of progress is a big reason why we've been a play-in team instead of a playoff team.

Being unlucky doesn't mean the intent was not to build through the draft. Getting a 7th pick still suggest you were pretty bad that season the ping pong balls just didn't fall in our favor. Regardless the attempt was to build through the draft Paxson literally said it every off season.
