For $40 million a year it can’t be that much of a part time gig.

For Jordan that isn't nothing compared to how much he gets off endorsements. Especially Nike.

Jordan makes $100 M a year off of Nike. If someone is making $100,000, don’t you think they would rather be making $140,000? If someone is making $100 M, they’d rather be making $140 M.

Also, NBC isn’t going to dish out that kind of money for Jordan to do a 10 minute interview once a week. The return on investment isn’t there.

100 mil? I heard it's over $300 mil now. Either way lots of money.
It'd be great and surprising if Jordan is there full time but if he isn't. Then nobody will be shocked by it.

I'm not sure the $40m/year number is real. All of the places saying he "reportedly" is getting 40 may be sourced from a questionable insta post. https://thesportsrush.com/nba-news-fact-check-is-michael-jordan-making-40-million-a-year-on-his-new-nbc-deal/

Might not be making 40M, but no way Jordan is doing it for less then 20M.

:dontknow:

Jordan's estimated earnings are 300M-400M per year (quick google search) and his estimated net worth is 3.5B. He effectively has infinite money. If he's doing this, I don't think the money thing is a factor, his agent just negotiated the money because he can and why not.

He just wants his voice out there.

This is fundamentally different than even extending the example to someone who makes 300-400k wanting an extra 40k though, because even at that level, probably you don't have generational wealth saved up outside of the 350k and your expenses per year are still likely in the 100k+ range, meaning that as a percentage of your real money and savings goals the 40k is worth way more.

However, even ignoring the real impact of the money (like 40M for Jordan will have absolutely zero impact on his life), most people I know in the 350k range without generational wealth behind them still wouldn't change jobs for an additional 40k per year unless the change also had other benefits they wanted outside of the salary.

Jordan was one of the least wealthy NBA owners. He talked about how he wished he had more money that he could spend on his front office. The other thing is Jordan is competitive; he wanted to play at the $1 poker table to get the $1 from Will Purdue. It looks like the $40 million dollar number might not be accurate, but if Jordan can break Tom Brady’s record for highest paid sports broadcaster, I’m sure Jordan would love to do that.

Jordan hasn’t owned the spotlight since retirement, but he certainly doesn’t mind owning it.

so there's a bunch of discussion about how much money MJ might make (who cares. a lot), but has he been on TV yet? how'd it go? he doesn't strike me as very charismatic.

huh?

Most people are excited for him to announce not only because he’s the GOAT but because of how well spoken, interesting, well-versed in the game and charismatic he is.

The Last Dance was a huge success and he was speaking throughout the whole thing. Sure, he probably won’t goof off like Chuck and Shaq.
LeBron has a 17.8% field goal percentage and a 12.5% 3-point percentage in clutch situations, and also made 20 of 116 game winning/tying shots in 4th/OT during his career

last dance? didn't watch it. JR and nike propaganda. seemed boring to boot. much rather watch a Bulls team that can actually make the postseason rather than re-live a postseason from 30 years ago. kinda sad.

jordan is a massive jerk to people and he showed up drunk to the last public appearance I saw him at. he might be "well spoken" (I don't know what that means...generally a term used to refer to black athletes for whatever reason) but he sure isn't charismatic. he's the opposite, frankly. he was really good at basketball but completely reneged on his societal role as, well, role model. lebron is better at basketball and better at that role, I'd watch him on TV. actually I'd definitely watch Draymond, a massive jerk, but actually charismatic and thoughtful.

anyway, the question was "how'd he do", didn't need a lecture on why I should worship him.

I'm here to debate the Jordan/Lebron talk any time! But you and I both know how ugly that's going to be for Lebron.
I knew you were a Lebron fan after that first post  I don’t care now knowing that, but calling him a better ball player is laughable. Jordan slaughters him in that dumb debate.

It makes no sense how you could be a Bulls and LBJ, not Jordan fan. Sorry to break the news but most people find Jordan way more charasmatic and would rather hear him commentate than LeFlopbrick.

You can have your own opinion of course, but it's a vast minority when it comes to this. Most people find him particularly charismatic and well spoken.

Apparently there is a rumor that LeBron fans are eating up that Jordan is gonna come back and rip his own fan base just because.

Return to Chicago Bulls
