For $40 million a year it can’t be that much of a part time gig.
For Jordan that isn't nothing compared to how much he gets off endorsements. Especially Nike.
Jordan makes $100 M a year off of Nike. If someone is making $100,000, don’t you think they would rather be making $140,000? If someone is making $100 M, they’d rather be making $140 M.
Also, NBC isn’t going to dish out that kind of money for Jordan to do a 10 minute interview once a week. The return on investment isn’t there.

Jordan's estimated earnings are 300M-400M per year (quick google search) and his estimated net worth is 3.5B. He effectively has infinite money. If he's doing this, I don't think the money thing is a factor, his agent just negotiated the money because he can and why not.
He just wants his voice out there.
This is fundamentally different than even extending the example to someone who makes 300-400k wanting an extra 40k though, because even at that level, probably you don't have generational wealth saved up outside of the 350k and your expenses per year are still likely in the 100k+ range, meaning that as a percentage of your real money and savings goals the 40k is worth way more.
However, even ignoring the real impact of the money (like 40M for Jordan will have absolutely zero impact on his life), most people I know in the 350k range without generational wealth behind them still wouldn't change jobs for an additional 40k per year unless the change also had other benefits they wanted outside of the salary.
