Simmons is just saying out loud what the entire NBA thinks. And people think we have some kind of shot of landing a superstar in trade or free agency. Never will with this reputation.

Does the cash affect the cap at all or is it literally just cash that gets sent to the team?

Must be some of that "goodwill with the owner" that IIRC Pax talked about before.

This also definitely increases the chances that we resign Tre Jones who I like but which I would think would be a mistake.

The #55 overall pick will be more likely to sign a 2-way contract. I have not studied any "stash" candidates.

I'm now looking at Micah Peavy, Max Shulga, Lachlan Olbrich, Will Richard, Hunter Sallis

What pisses me off is we don’t ever acquire any additional 2nd round picks whenever we trade one away. It’s just straight cash.

However, when the Bulls are the ones looking to acquire a 2nd rounder, we end up giving away MULTIPLE future 2nds, never cash.

Omer Asik: gave up 3 second rounders
Julian Phillips: gave up 2 second rounders

Other teams want our 2nd rounder? Bulls just want to know how much cash they are getting, nevermind maybe taking a little less cash and also getting an addtional future 2nd on top of that. Because you know, if you get an extra 2nd rounder in a trade, you always have the option to sell that future 2nd for even more cash considerations!

One owner is committed to doing what it takes to win, the other doesn't GAF about winning. This trade outlines that perfectly

Has no effect on the cap.

So, the odds of #45 turning into even a rotation player was sub 1%, BUT YOU GOTTA AT LEAST TRY! IT'S A LOTTERY TICKET BUT SOMETIMES PEOPLE WIN THE LOTTERY. AK WON THE LOTTERY WITH JOKIC.

I mean, they still have the 55th pick. There's really not a difference in talent throughout the 2nd round for the exact reason in bold.

Obviously we know the answer, but I just don't get moving down instead of just moving out completely which would've given them future picks.

If there wasn't a difference, the Lakers wouldn't be willing to pay to move up.

This is what I just looked up. People make snap judgements when they see cash considerations, but there's more involved than just cash to the owners. Second round picks are getting contracts, higher the pick, higher the contract. Most aren't a lot, but rookie min is over 1 mill. Second round picks have NO restrictions on the contract they can sign. 45th pick last year signed a 3yr/$6.1 mill contract. So let's assume an extra $2mill on the Bulls books for a player you're sending to the G League all season like Sanogo, and who's taking up a roster spot. Bronny James got a little less at #55, but he's Bronny James. The 55th pick of 2023 ended up signing a two-way so big savings for the team and an extra regular spot.

Teams are allowed to send $5.9 mill in cash total per year without affecting their cap, either for picks or to make money match in trades. Don't know if receiving considerations, rather than sending them changes anything, but there is a financial cost to when and where you draft players. Carter and Terry don't cost a whole lot, but i wish they were gone, lol.

Doesn't appear to add to the receiving teams cap anyway, other than reducing or eliminating the cost of the pick and/or getting an extra roster spot without waiving anyone. People in here want to waive Carter and pay a second round pick 2 mill in his place. That's like paying $8 mill for the second rd pick this year, vs $6 mill for Carter, who's very likely the better player. I'd have traded it for a future second myself, but maybe they do that with the pick they received.

And why did they even want #55? They couldn't just say we want cash and a future 2nd? Lakers would have probably done that considering there's obviously someone they like in the #45 range

Honestly I'm not angry. If AK had actually moved Vuc, Williams, or White I would have been thoroughly shocked. We all have a pretty good idea of how this FO operates at this point.

We know, but people still go to games and support this ownership.

The biggest question is why? There is absolutely nothing to like about this organization. It’s time for this loyalty to end.

If I only knew the answer.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

We traded 2026, 2027 seconds for the 35th pick Julian Phillips. Think they had Phillips listed as a late first round talent. The physicals are there. Hasn't panned out yet, but there's still this season.

On the bright side, if he does show promise this season and we re-sign him, it'll be way cheaper than if he'd been balling out the last 2 years, lmao!

Edit: Late response, was typing while everybody answered!
