People are making too big of a deal about NY not taking Boozer. Boozer going to NY is just one option. He can go to one of many third teams with capspace. Philly, Utah, Orlando and maybe even LA. The Mark Deeks scenario of an amnesty then s&t is possible too.

Your numbers are right. My issue with Broussard's statement was that the S&T must include Boozer to work. If they amnesty Boozer, they have $11.12M in cap space. S&T with Butler, Dunleavy, and non-guaranteeds matches a $20.33M offer to Melo.

They can amnesty Boozer and offer a very attractive S&T to New York that gets Melo his cash.

Broussard is an idiot.

Main issue for the Knicks is staying below the tax line. Any trade that puts them above it, they will decline.

Agreed. The Bulls don't need NY to take Boozer - that's just one of many options.

All Melo has to do is tell NY he isn't coming back - and a S&T will get worked out.

This 'Boozer can't be traded' and 'NY doesn't want Boozer in a sign and trade' is utter nonsense and posturing. Boozer is a fine player and his contract can be flipped at the trade deadline or expired. He's not worth the contract, but he's also not a complete bum. I've seen plenty of complete bum-ass bums moved quite easily in similar situations.

The problem with Broussards "reporting" is he made a dumb frackin assumption that we wouldn't dump more guys to clear space for Melo. Move Butler and you can clear another $2 mil.

but the thing is he does mention that the bulls could sign melo for 17 mil if they dump butler. almost word for word.

Just remember guys our FO isn't stupid. They know how much money they will need to offer Melo and what moves need to be made to get there. They also knew Melo had the max on the table and I'm sure they all addressed it yesterday. They prepared for this week for 6 months beginning with the Deng trade. These media reports are just for tv sensation.

Does Noah's bonus become effective immediately or could it be spread out?

I was on the Magic board the other day and they mentioned how they opened up all that capspace to maybe take contracts like Nash or Boozer. I remember a report a few days ago saying the Bulls have talked to 4 teams about taking Boozer. That could mean we have our 3rd trade partner ready and now we are waiting on Melo to say yes.

Boozer, MDJ, and non-guaranteed contracts for Melo and JR Smith puts them well below the tax line.

I wonder if the Knicks will get called 'cheap' for not paying the tax?

Because he is a sickly talented young idiot. Give him to Thibs and I just think we might have something. I think the Bulls and Noah, and Rose and Taj around him can get him to channel those talents and make that deal a bargain. It's a gamble but everything the Bulls are doing right now has to be somewhat a gamble. The EC is there for the taking and we have to move fast. I'm pretty sure Melo is staying in NYC and just wants the Magical Mystery Tour.

I just like that htis whole process brought the Bulls together as a franchise. Whether we sign Melo or not, the Bulls will be a great team next season.

And Melo knew exactly how much the Bulls have available - and still scheduled the meeting.

Here's a question that prob has been answered before, but would it be possible to re-negotiate Rose's contract? As in taking a cut to clear more space? Not that he'd be willing....

I think this Melo decision may come down to a "Rose" ceremony, pun intended.

If there's one thing I've noticed, it's that the national reporters spin the numbers to fit their own narrative. For example, Broussard came on this morning and threw around the 15 million figure to prove his point that Melo would more likely stay with NY because that is a drastic cut to what he could be making in NY. He even said that the Knicks have NO interest in taking Boozer back.

That's lazy reporting, as anyone who spends any amount of time on RealGM can attest. He didn't explore any of the other options that could happen, such as the Bulls finding a third team to take on Boozer. They also make Boozer sound like this total dead weight contract, which I don't believe he is.
