I didn't even know who Oshae Brisett was until today. He scored 23 points.

He's the result of a team using the back of its roster trying to find talent, just like we never ever seem to do.

Do play-in game stats count as regular season stats or playoff stats?

??? Arci? Shaq Harrison? David Nwaba? That guy that lead the D league in scoring? Many others as well.

One of the talking heads said that they don't count for either.

They are their own stat pool(?) pile(?) heap. I am going with heap.

They are their own heap of stats.

Shaq is barely in the league. Arci is even worse. That guy that lead the D league did good in the D league, not here.

Why was Felicio stillon the team after the trade deadline? Why didn't we use Mokoka and Dotson? We must use the back of the roster more efficiently going forward.

Yeah that’s how it should be. Play ins aren’t regular season or playoffs.

I agree. A lot of teams are good at churning the bottom of their roster to find players that can be legit contributors. Toronto is really good at it; Miami; Indiana; OKC is - though obviously they are in a position to just try to find talent.

The Bulls.... aren't. And by aren't, I mean that the Bulls have a history of letting guys go from the bottom of their roster to keep other, non-contributing, players - and the guys that the Bulls let go are the ones who develop into something.

Spencer Dinwiddie is the most glaring example, but you also have TLC (who left and became playable in Brooklyn). Heck, even Max Strus was able to contribute something for Miami - a deeper and better team than the Bulls. But Mokoka did nothing, barely even seeing the court.

As to the play-in, it took a half, but it looks like the Celtics finally woke up.

I wonder if that means that they've "flipped the switch" and will be a much tougher team going forward.

We'll see when they play the Nets... that's one team where Boston actually, theoretically, matches up pretty well, even without Jaylen Brown - because the Nets don't really have any dominant interior play to take advantage of the Celtics lack of size.

But without Jaylen Brown, the Celtics have effectively no reliable depth (outside of the Williams / Tristan Thompson duo) - as compared to the loaded Nets, so I don't think the Celtics can actually take a series unless a Payton Pritchard or Edwards or Nesmith explodes onto the seen (at least a game at a time).

Meanwhile, my (figurative) money is on the Warriors tonight.

I don't actually think they could take a series against the Lakers - Lakers will round into form after a bit, and have more depth.

But the Lakers haven't been playing particularly well lately, eeking out wins against lesser teams (like over a no Brogdon Indiana team despite having both James and Davis) - and the Warriors aren't the no-Zion Pelicans. It's kind of like how Boston was struggling and struggled for a half against Washington - but the Wizards were ultimately a pretty bad and imbalanced team.

But even if the Lakers lose tonight, I expect them to pound the Spurs or Grizz (most likely Spurs given the way the Grizz have been playing) and then likely upset the Jazz (or, for that matter, Suns if they win tonight).

Actually, the more that I think about it, the more I expect the Lakers to repeat as champs (after losing tonight)...

He will win the Rookie of the Year award while not being a net positive for this team on the season. Had some great games, some good games, some meh games, some awful games. Pretty much a neutral.

If you rely on 19 year olds, even very good ones, don't expect to win for a long while.

Ha I was wrong on my predictions for both games last night. Hard to watch those games and not think the Bulls would have been better than the Hornets and Wizards last night.

I think as Bulls fans we're extra critical and aware of our end-of-bench guys. A lot of these type of guys float around, even Brissett started in the Raptors organization before winding up in Indiana. Is Toronto dumb for letting him go or does it just happen?

3 years from now Denzel Valentine could be an assistant coach at Loyola or he could be contributing in a TLC type role, neither would surprise me.

Everyone on this board hated Cam Payne - turns out he's pretty good.

Washington traded us Troy Brown Jr and in a week this board fell in love with him.

Yes and no. The depth chart was significantly better after the trades IMO (except Zach got injured and chemistry took a beating), but Arci, Felicio, Mokoka and Valentine are all fringe end of-bench NBA players, best suited for a foreign league (along with Kornet). Gafford is a really raw energy piece who needs a specific bench role. With Wendell, Otto and Lauri out, we were managing surprisingly well with a G-League bench and really raw Coby/Pat. Valentine picked up a lot of slack, and IMO he did got too much **** this year. I was ready to give up on him 3 years ago, and he's largely been a waste of roster space, but since he's been healthy, he shoots and makes nice passes. High-skill player with decent size, but terrible athleticism and apparently some major over-confidence gaffes. He's a solid $2m deep bench guy IMO.

Love Arci's effort, and he can shoot and play solid defense, but at his size and speed, he's nothing more than a deep, deep reserve. $3m was too much for him; he's a min. contract player IMO.

I thought the Bulls never gave Mokoka a real chance. He had a good game or two last year, but for the most part he never leaves the bench (this year he played 4 minutes per game). How can anyone evaluate his game with such a limited sample size?

I'm sure some people will say that he's not very good and maybe he isn't. I have no idea. What I saw in limited playing time was a guy who I think can at least be a solid defender.

Dotson this year is similar. How do we know if he's any good? He played 4.5 minutes a game for 11 games. Sure we already had players ahead of him in the rotation, but I think overall the Bulls could do better at evaluating players like him.

I agree, and that's part of the problem. We keep crappy veterans on the back of the roster even when we're fully aware they're close to useless. When we do have some emergency minutes available, instead of giving them to our two-way guys, we give them to those crappy vets.
We seriously couldn't have given Denzel's and Arci's minutes to Dotson and Mokoka??? Cmon!
Constantly underwhelmed by the Bulls.
