Re: Lauri:' I can make the comeback'
I know it sounds like a cliche - I guess because it is - but good coaches have a way of putting players in "a position to succeed". There are LOTS of players in the NBA that are competent at 2 or 3 skills, but not all of 'em. A good coach finds a way with lineups and offensive schemes to take advantage of what a player does WELL
That...my friends...has been missing for an awfully long time in Chicago.
I am 100% sure that Lauri, used correctly, could be a very very VERY productive player on a good team. That is more than I can say for tons of players. They may get minutes/stats but they don't make a team better.
Let's see what Donovan can do with the pieces dealt to him.

I'm also surprised Otto made it, they are definitely giving him credit for "healthy Otto" to some degree.
My presumption probably every time I see these type of lists is "oh, now they've ranked players who are hot now" and every time I'm left disappointed.
In what time span do they evaluate players? Otto has probably looked like a TOP100 player in 20 games in two seasons with us.
When Otto is healthy and looks like he cares about basketball, hes a Top 100 player. That hasn't happened very often lately.
When Lauri turns into FebruLauri, he's easily a Top 100 player. That hasn't happened very often lately either.
It's a joke Otto is on this list.
So when he plays like an NBA player one month out of the season? Porter has at least a few seasons of good play behind, Lauri has a month.

Re: Lauri:' I can make the comeback'
I wonder if Lauri might take a 2/$45M deal ($24M yr 1, $21M yr 2), with the second year being a team option? Gives him some $ for financial comfort, gives the Bulls another year of potential control if Lauri bounces back and punts some salary ahead a year on logic that 2021 FA market looks bleak. Also gives them a sense of pairing of PWill/Lauri.

The problem is that so far it has seemed Lauri's only position to succeed is standing at the 3 point line. Hopefully that changes.

The guy definitely has some size and talent. Unfortunately it just looks like the NBA game is just too fast for him. Physically and mentally. To me he shouldn't be playing any position other than center.

Re: Lauri:' I can make the comeback'
I am really curious to see when he exactly will start this "comeback". Did he mention any year or season?

I think that Lauri did reasonably well in the first preseason game, although perhaps it is questionable to say that about anyone when the team pretty much got slaughtered... but it's a preseason game, so... More worried about both centers TBH.

Re: Lauri:' I can make the comeback'
I know some folks say Lauri is better if he is used more than a 3pt shooter, but IMO, it is ALL about his 3pt shooting. Those other parts of his game only start to matter when teams are worried about his 3's. I like that the Bulls are moving him around, and, IMO, having 4 viable scorers in the starting line-up should limit other teams putting wings on him on the perimeter.

I have no idea what you're talking about.
Lauri was plenty succesful as a rookie when he didn't "stand at the 3 point line". That mostly goes for his 2nd season too.
Last season, though, he really DID start standing at the 3pt line - according to Boylen's genius game plan - and it all went to hell.

Any day now, Lauri. We’re ready. Would be great.

GarPax were such a brutal debacle of a professional management team, I can't believe I bought into the need for the Jimmy Butler trade. Ultimately it's not Lauri's fault. It's Gar's Fault. It's John's fault. It's anyone in the organization named Reinsdorf's fault.

Re: Lauri:' I can make the comeback'
The solution for Lauri is pretty obvious. It was the same solution for McDermott who has now become a decent player on a playoff team.
Drop the charade of Lauri being some sort of versatile scorer. He doesn't have the talent for that.
His entire game should revolve around bombing 3's. He has no other meaningful gift offensively.
Have him watch Bertans and Duncan Robinson tape. That's his only path to being a plus player.

The unfortunate difference being that McDermott is outstanding at shooting 3s, while Lauri does not even meet the NBA average.

I mean either he's going to start hitting them or he's going to bust. I actually think there's good reason to believe he'll start hitting at a strong percentage with his elite FT% and he's pretty young.
But his play style should be based around him being a top shooter. Complete waste of time otherwise.
Give me 10 3's per game with a 65-70% 3PAr.

Re: Lauri:' I can make the comeback'
The trouble with Lauri getting to high volume on his threes is that he sucks at relocating. And defenders of any size seem capable of bothering his shot.
I don't know how many times I've seen him change the angle of his release because some 6'6" wing gets a hand in his face.
But I agree. If he's gonna make it, it's going to be as a shooter. There's nothing else there.
