Re: Bears thread 13
Well the improvement is that we actually won the game. The way it was heading, it just felt like a typical Bears loss.
The run game is beyond awful and is holding back everything else considerably.

Letting David Montgomery walk for a 3yr/$18m deal and turning right around and giving Swift a 3/24 deal has been a disaster.

I don’t even think it was that ugly. We played significantly better in the second half (expect our run defense). Pass blocking got a lot better, run offense went from horrible to maybe not so bad. And the final drive was huge
If you don’t think that was an ugly game, I’d hate to see what you consider ugly.

We won because our defense forced 4 turnovers and blocked a field goal. That will probably not happen in another game this year.

Re: Bears thread 13
Hard to take much from this game. We beat a similarly mediocre team, but it was a road win and we were without some key pieces.
Caleb certainly wasn't as good as last week, but he was still decent, especially with a patchwork OLine. I was actually very impressed with his rushing today. He has a burst that I hadn't seen much before.
I can only imagine what we'd be saying if Caleb had been throwing to Loveland instead of Kmet. He used to be good...wtf happened to him?
I'd like to see more Monangai. He seems to be a better runner than Swift who has trouble with YAC.
Defense was strong today, but Special Teams was amazing between the FG's, the blocked FG, and that great punt.

What are the chances that Flus gets fired before the end of the year? I mean, someone has to take the blame there and it’s not going to be Jerry.

Re: Bears thread 13
We say this every year, but next draft they better use every single frickin' pick on either the offensive or the defensive lines.
I cannot believe how bad our off. line is. It's worse than last year, and we added 3 top free agents! How can they be this bad. We cannot run the ball to save our lives, and the pass pro wasn't very good either. There's no way you can win against good teams with this off. line, without being to run the ball, at all.
At halftime I thought they might as well just get in shotgun formation and throw the ball every single time. It's better than looking at 2nd and 12 every series.

Re: Bears thread 13
And our d line isn't much better. I don't know how many yards per carry they averaged, but if felt like it was about 6. And no pressure whatsoever on Geno. No sacks. If it wasn't for our outstanding secondary, we would have lost by 14. Great game by Byard and another strong game by Tyrique, who looks like a new man.
When you get 3 INT's and a fumble recovery, you should win by 20. Such an undeserving win. Kudos to Caleb for orchestrating that final drive though, that was clutch. Hard to take much good away from this though.

I don't know if that was intentional or not, but that's a great nickname for Ozzie!

Yeah, would be interesting to see the difference in kick return yardage between the teams today. Somehow I feel it would be about +40 Raiders.

Kmet effing sucks. two false starts, and dropped a perfect pass that started a downward spiral on that drive.
I agree on Caleb. He's still got some things to improve on- still leaves the pocket early, still makes very few plays throwing when he leaves the pocket, still taking check downs when he has men open downfield, still some horribly inaccurate passes, and still some fumbling/bumbling getting the plays off, but overall, I'm sold on him being the qb that can take us to the promised land.
He made some really big time throws, like that TD to Rome. And he figured out a way to get the ball into the end zone on that final drive. And he's doing all that without a running game, when the defense can just tee off on him, and without great pass pro.
And who would have thought it, but we really missed Loveland today.

BJ is not to be trifled with. The way she backed up, like she understood that glare he gave her wasn’t playing

Re: Bears thread 13
Byard has to be Def. player of the week. Neither of those picks were easy. He had a key run stuff too. Although he did fail to tackle Jeanty on that long run.
I had my doubts about Jeanty, but he looked good today. He's a load to bring down.

Yeah, thank god we got Darnell Wright instead. Really dodged a bullet there. /sarcasm
got darnell and *cough* tory taylor
darnell will be fine though. and i'll defend that trade if not the players selected
From a math perspective, maybe if you ignored the actual players.
From a talent level on the board perspective? Jalen Carter was viewed as a consensus absolutely elite talent and Darnell Wright was not, and 2 years and change into seeing what will actually happen, those consensus views have both proven correct. Jalen Carter is an absolutely elite talent and Darnell Wright is not.
talent isn't everything, obviously. and the proof is jalen carter, whose talent significantly exceeds his consensus draft slot as was determined by many nfl execs
and yes, it's from a "math perspective." the expected value of the trade works out in the favor of the bears. if you're bad at evaluating draft talent, you just take carter. but no nfl gm thinks they're bad at drafting

"Change what you're doing"... it's pretty hard to do anything if your line can't block on one side, and can't stop the run on the other. This isn't Bears football- getting outphysicalled on both sides of the ball, and having to make up for it with special plays.

As bad as this game looked, being 2-2 is sure a lot better than being 1-3.

badly missed another check down throw to the sidelines, a couple more sail throws downfield, reverting to too many cross-body hero ball lasers while heading OB...and that INT was a pretty bad decision
he seems to be scrambling nearly as much w/o getting caught this season
